As it is Monday that means we get another look at the updated vote totals for the National League All Star team. As expected Chase Utley still dominates second basemen, but in bigger news he has overtaken Albert Pujols for the overall vote lead.
  1. Utley - 2,273,355 votes
  2. Pujols - 2,158,036 votes
Incredible!

Jimmy Rollins and Raul Ibanez still are the leading vote receivers for shortstop and outfield, respectively. Rollins' lead over Florida's Hanley Ramirez has dipped a little since last week but with the Phillies drawing many more fans than the Marlins it would seem Rollins may be able to keep his lead, if not expand on it as the deadline approaches. Ibanez's lead has grown a little bit.

Carlos Ruiz has moved up to fourth in the catcher's spot, although Yadier Molina of the Cardinals is still up by about 100,000 votes. Shane Victorino is fifth among outfielders, about 200,000 votes behind Carlos Beltran for the final fan vote outfielder.

Ryan Howard is still in second place for first basemen. Although he will not catch Pujols he is cementing himself as the lock for the first backup for the position. He is up on Prince Fielder by a little less than 230,000 votes. Hopefully he can put some more distance between he and Fielder.

So as of today the Phillies would have three players selected to the starting line up and it would be almost impossible for manager Charlie Manuel, who is managing the National League, to pass up on his own first baseman for a reserve spot. Plus who knows if any pitchers will make it to the mid-summer classic.
