Andrew Miller has been a pleasant surprise for the Red Sox this season. They’re now holding their breath as they await word on the hard-throwing lefty. Miller replaced Ryan Dempster in the seventh inning of Saturday’s game and faced one batter before going down with an injury. John Farrell said after the game that Miller suffered a foot injury and was undergoing X-Rays at a nearby hospital, but that was the only information available. Miller came in to pitch with one out in the seventh. He threw a wild pitch with J.B. Shuck at the plate, which allowed Chris Iannetta to take second base. Shuck then singled into center field, at which point Miller sprang off the mound and headed toward home to back up a potential play at the plate. Miller stumbled to the ground in pain, though, and he grabbed near his ankle/foot. Miller was eventually helped off the field by Farrell and the team’s trainer, and it looked as if the pitcher couldn’t put any weight on his left foot. Farrell said that more...

Papi In The Pinch; Red Sox Beat Halos, 6-2

(Stephen Dunn/Getty Images)David Ortiz came off the bench in the 8th inning last night and extended Boston's lead from one to three runs with one swing, helping beat the Angels, 6-2. The two-run shot was the fifth pinch-hit HR of the DH's career (the first with Boston was also against the Angels in 2003). Felix Doubront had yet another good start—albeit with some rough...

Squanderpalooza Results In Stunning Loss, 9-7

(Stephen Dunn/Getty Images)Everyone will focus on the bullpen meltdown in analyzing Boston's most devastating loss of the season, 9-7 in 11 innings last night. With two outs in the ninth, Alex Wilson and Koji Uehara could not protect a four-run lead. That said, it was the countless missed scoring opportunities early in the game that should have turned this into a laugher for...

Shane Victorino Experiencing Hamstring Tightness, Will Be Re-Evaluated Sunday

Shane Victorino tripled and scored a run in the sixth inning of Saturday’s game against the Angels. He appeared to cross the plate with a limp, though, and he was eventually lifted for a pinch-hitter in the ninth inning. Jonny Gomes pinch-hit for Victorino in the ninth inning with the Red Sox leading 7-3. While it might have been a precautionary move more than anything, manager...

Koji Uehara Deserves to Win All-Star Game Final Vote, As His Importance to Red Sox Can’t Be Overstated

Koji Uehara’s All-Star candidacy took a hit Saturday. But there’s still no reason why he shouldn’t be dishing out high fives when MLB.com’s Final Vote concludes Thursday. Uehara not only has history on his side, but he’s also the American League Final Vote finalist who most deserves to be an All-Star, regardless of Saturday’s blown save against the Angels. AL All-Star...

Angels May Need Extra Help on Mound to Fend Off Red-Hot Red Sox (Video)

It’s no secret that the Red Sox are hot right now. They own the best record in the American League and the second best in MLB with 54 wins. That’s why the Angels’ pitching choice for Saturday night’s late-night matchup is so interesting — the west coast team could be setting themselves up for failure. NESN Nation’s Alison Smith breaks down why that is in the above video...

Red Sox ownership: Money not an issue

The Guru Contributing Writer If the Boston Red Sox are buyers in the trade market, don't expect spending to be a problem. Red Sox principal owner John Henry told CSNNE.com that money won't be an issue at the July 31 trade deadline. "I can't see it being an issue," said Henry who was on hand at Angel Stadium of Anaheim Sunday, "I suppose there might...

Red Sox Rumors: Boston 'open' to upgrades in bullpen, third base

The Boston Red Sox, sitting five games ahead of the AL East, are 'open to possible' upgrades at third base and in the bullpen, according to ESPN's Buster Olney. The Red Sox don't figure to be aggressive buyers at the deadline, but just appear open to the possibility of getting upgrades. So what kind of bullpen guy are the Red Sox looking for? Somebody asked Pete...

2013 All-Star teams announced: Ortiz, Buchholz and Pedroia get the call

The Guru Contributing Writer The American League and National League All-Star teams have been announced. The starters were selected by fan votes. Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz was voted in as the AL starting DH and starting pitcher Clay Buchholz was also named to the starting rotation but will likely be replaced due to injury. Second baseman Dustin Pedroia will be...

Preparing for sleep deprivation

I hate Red Sox West Coast road trips. Like, I really, seriously LOATHE West Coast road trips. I’m one of those people who’s really finicky about my sleep schedule, to the point that I’ll ditch my friends to go home and sleep. But as you all know by now, I’m also extremely serious about the Red Sox, and I’m willing to sacrifice a consistent sleep schedule for a few days...

Report: Red Sox Open to ‘Possible Trade-Market Upgrades’ in Bullpen, at Third Base

There are inevitably going to be a lot of rumors leading up to the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline, and this one is rather vague. It’s still worth passing along, though, as it gives an indication of what the Red Sox might be looking for while trying to improve their roster. According to ESPN’s Buster Olney, the Red Sox are open to “possible trade-market upgrades” in the...

Red Sox Look to Continue Momentum From Impressive Homestand, Slow Down Surging Angels

After their most successful homestand in more than three years, the Boston Red Sox will begin a 1o-game West Coast road trip on Friday against the Los Angeles Angels. Felix Doubront will get the nod in the series opener, and he will need to have his best stuff in order to slow down an Angels team that has won eight of its last nine games. The Sox are coming off a hot streak of their...

Recap - Sox bats go silent in rubber match

The Guru Contributing Writer The Red Sox were not able to muster any runs as Jared Weaver and the Angels bullpen shut down baseball's most potent offense 3-0. It was only the fifth time the Red Sox have been shut out this season. Mike Trout and Hank Conger hit solo home runs and Mark Trumbo knocked in an insurance run with a sacrifice fly in the eighth. The Red Sox wasted...

Sox top Padres

I missed the first eight and a half innings of tonight’s game because I was in class: graduate school started yesterday and we’ve hit the ground running. Of course, I surreptitiously monitored the progress of the Red Sox as consistently as possible, and was thrilled every time I checked in by the excellent start from John Lackey. You can’t script it any better than this: the...

#VOTEKOJI

Okay Boston Red Sox fans, it's that time once again where we need to get one of our own to the All-Star Game. Our closer, Koji Uehara, has been selected for the 2013 MLB All-Star Game Final Vote and needs our help to join David Ortiz, Clay Buchholz and Dustin Pedroia at the game. There is no limit on how many times you can vote, so do #votekoji whenever you can. I'...

Red Sox Face Questions in Bullpen, Team Could Become Active As Trade Deadline Nears (Video)

Just when it seemed like the Red Sox were finally out of the woods when it came to reliever questions, a dark cloud settled back over the bullpen. Reliever Andrew Miller will undergo a season-ending foot surgery to repair ligament damage in his left foot, leaving Boston with Craig Breslow as the only left-handed reliever on the roster. Sox general manager Ben Cherington talked with...
