Down and Distance:
If you watched the 2013 NFL Draft, and noticed the Kansas City Chiefs war room, you might have seen a curious sight. Head coach, Andy Reid, wearing a rather colorful shirt. In case you missed it, the guys over at SB Nation’s Arrowhead Pride have supplied a picture of Reid’s shirt.

Today, Reid took a little time to speak on his peculiar decision to wear such a bright shirt.
“You know what, over on the Plaza [in Kansas City] there’s a Tommy Bahama shop,” Reid told The Program’s Soren Petro on Monday. “There’s a lady over there who took care of me, the manager of the store over there. She heard the story about the Tommy Bahama shirts and she sent that one over to me without any fanfare or anything. I appreciated that.”
“Normally I wear that on the second day but I donned it on the first day. The other shirts I had, I had the red Tommy Bahama all lined up and ready to go before that one came over for the second day, so I wore that one the second day. The third day I went kind of plain, I went with the black Tommy Bahama.”
“Soren, if you and I keep this up we might get a deal with Tommy Bahama doggone it. We might get a discount card. I didn’t think about this but we’re giving them a pretty good plug right here.”
Reid also mentioned why he likes to wear Tommy Bahama shirts.
“You wear them and you can hide cheeseburgers underneath and no one will ever know.”

The Philadelphia Eagles drafted USC QB Matt Barkley with the first pick in the fourth round of the 2013 NFL Draft. Apparently they feared that the Chiefs may take him so they worked out a deal with the Jaguars to move up to the first pick (only gave up a seventh-rounder).
And we thought we knew Chip Kelly, huh?

The 2013 Philadelphia Eagles draft class has Chip Kelly’s fingerprints all over it. The team has stated the entire time that the decision-making would be a collaborative effort. But, make no mistake, these are all Kelly-type players.

Philadelphia Eagles coach Chip Kelly added eight selections with his first NFL Draft. Kelly’s debut draft class features three offensive players and five defensive players, all who fit specifically under Kelly’s vision for the future of the organization.
It’s all about competition now for Eagles coach Chip Kelly and his quarterbacks, but at some point someone has to take the lead.
While that process has been going on for a month, the competition level was raised when the team drafted USC QB Matt Barkley.
However, Kelly want his starting quarterback to earn the role, even if that means a starter won’t be named until preseason...

QuarterbacksEverybody is trying to figure out why Chip Kelly and the Eagles decided to trade up and draft USC quarterback Matt Barkley in the fourth round.
I was shocked at the move myself, until I stepped back and considered the obvious. Kelly and his staff aren’t sure about any of the Eagles quarterbacks. Are any of [...](Read more...)

First Round: Lane Johnson, OT, Oklahoma
Philly must have been pretty scared when Miami traded up ahead of them, but they got their man anyways. Johnson is the third best OT in the draft, but I think he has the most potential out of the three. I think Chip Kelly can get a lot out of him. He will be a staple on that line for years to come. I think Johnson was one of the top...
The nature of drafting QBs that even people who don't follow college football have heard of is that they have far more interest for the general public than any other position. The Eagles are about to learn all about this as Matt Barkley, once a top-10 lock and eventually a fourth-round gamble, joins the flock.
The thing about QBs... unless we're about to enter...
