At right: Wimbledon finalist Andy Roddick. Andy Roddick was stunned in the second round of the ATP Masters 1000 Event in Cincinnati by compatriot Sam Querrey. It is Qurrey’s first victory against Roddick in four attempts. The duo met just a couple weeks ago in the Legg Mason ATP Event in Washington, D.C.; Roddick won that match in straight sets and went on to reach the final, where he fell short against Juan Martin del Potro of Argentina. Roddick had chances against Querrey in Cincinnati but was edged out in both sets as he went down, 7-6, 7-6. While Roddick will be disappointed with this loss, it will take a brave person to bet against the American being a force at the US Open next month. Roddick’s lone Grand Slam title was at the US Open six years ago, and he also reached the final in New York in 2006, when he lost to World No. 1 Roger Federer in five sets.
