PLAYERS: Max Stassi
TEAMS: Houston Astros
Earlier this week, the Houston Astros placed catcher Carlos Corporan on the seven-day disabled list for concussions. Only a few days have passed, but they’re now placing the player that was called to fill in for Corporan on the roster, Max Stassi, on the same DL as he’s dealing with concussion-related symptoms, according to Jason Mastrodonato of MLB.com. Stassi suffered what was later determined to be a mild concussion when he was hit on the face while batting during Wednesday night’s contest. As a result, the Astros placed Stassi on the seven-day DL yesterday. Wednesday marked Stassi’s second game in the majors. He was cleared of any facial fractures after undergoing an X-ray, but the hit to the face was enough to cause the concussion. After losing Corporan and Stassi to concussions, the Astros have now called up Cody Clark to back up regular catcher Jason Castro. Follow @mlbinjurynews Looking for fantasy baseball advice?

Astros move Erik Bedard to the bullpen

getty images Erik Bedard has been bumped from the Houston Astros starting rotation. Bedard, 34, has made 25 appearances with the Astros this season – including 23 starts. While Bedard’s ERA and WHIP (4.48 ERA, 1.49 WHIP) are nearly the same as they were two months ago the Astros could not help but notice...

Castro’s blasts power Astros past Blue Jays

Rested and healthy for the first full season of his career Astros All-Star catcher Jason Castro is rounding the final stretch of the 2013 season with plenty of confidence and power. On Saturday night Castro guided Brad Peacock through 5 2/3 innings calling on his rookie starter’s newfound slider often to get out of trouble. Catchers are judged first and foremost on how they guide...

The Astros were a hit Friday night at Minute Maid Park. They put up a run-scoring double a home run and a triple to center field before L.J. Jonathan Villar set a career high with two of the Astros’ three triples — the most they have...

Max Stassi, Jason Heyward both take pitches to face in same day (Video)

Houston Astros catcher Max Stassi had an incredibly memorable first week in the Major Leagues, and we don’t neccesarily mean that in a good way. Sure, the 22-year-old recorded his first MLB hit and picked up his first big league RBI, but his accomplishments came at a steep price. On Tuesday, Stassi committed an embarrassing […]

Castro leads Astros past Jays

Houston manager Bo Porter said early in the season that he thought giving catcher Jason Castro days at designated hitter would keep him fresh late and help the team. It looks like the first-year manager was right. Castro homered twice and drove in three runs to lead the Houston Astros to an 8-5 win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday night. Castro hit a two-run homer in the...
