Rivals.com has released a new and updated list of the 2014 class, their rankings, and the new commitments. The Kentucky Wildcats featured three players on the list, and two of them took a huge jump. Kentucky’s class as a whole currently has 7 commitments, with 5 of them coming from the state of Ohio. According to Rivals, every current commitment also has at least a three star ranking. Kentucky’s class currently ranks #16 in the nation, ahead of schools like Auburn, Clemson, Georgia, and Oklahoma for starters.
Kentucky QB commitment Drew Barker jumped 36 spots to #117 overall in the class, and is now the class’ 6th ranked QB overall with 4 stars. Barker earns the distinction of being the highest ranked commitment for the ‘Cats thus far. Barker is in position to be the highest ranking commitment since Micah Johnson (#36) in 2006. Running back commitment Mikel Horton jumped 78 spots to #131. Horton is now ranked as the class’ 22nd best running back, and has 4 stars. WR commit Thaddeus Snodgrass now appears on the list at #205 overall, 24th best WR in the class, and also ranked with 4-stars.
These three commitments for the ‘Cats are a big building block for Mark Stoops & Co. I’ve always believed a program is on the way back from the ruins when they are able to keep their best in-state players instead of losing them to bigger schools. On top of snagging Drew Barker away from South Carolina, Jason Hatcher was headed to Southern Cal, and Ryan Timmons had offers from Florida, Arkansas, and Ohio State. The recruiting efforts in-state are paying off and being noticed by other top prospects. This can only lead to bigger and better talent coming to Lexington, KY to play on the gridiron. These three commits will be the foundation for Stoops Troops. Just wait till he brings in the cavalry.
