Found July 13, 2013 on The Other Paper:

A bearded Pittsburgh Pirates fan went all out to grab a foul ball hit into the third base seats Friday night at PNC Park.  The Brett Keisel lookalike frantically dove over a railing to recover the ball, then gets up and just hands it over to a young Mets fan. The guy looks a lot meaner than he is. If the beard was white, I'd believe he was Santa Claus. Your browser does not support iframes.

First Pitch: Gregory Polanco Should Be Untouchable

Gregory Polanco should be untouchable. I’m pretty sure I built the Gregory Polanco bandwagon. I was calling him a sleeper and one of the most promising international prospects on the Pirates back at the start of the 2011 season. That’s one year before his big breakout in West Virginia. I called that breakout season in March 2012 after seeing Polanco in Spring Training for about...

One factor that could...

Minor League Schedule: Heredia On The Mound Tonight

Luis Heredia is scheduled to make his fifth start of the season tonight, coming off a rain-shortened game last time out. The GCL Pirates and both Dominican League affiliates were off yesterday. All three resume play today. Tyler Glasnow was originally scheduled to start yesterday. The West Virginia game was suspended in the third inning due to rain and Glasnow’s start was pushed...

Pirates' Jeff Locke scratched from start and will miss All-Star Game

Jordy Mercer Breaks Slide with Walkoff Single in 3-2 Win Over Mets

Pedro Alvarez was characteristically nonplussed about his 1st-inning home run after his Derby selection. Jordy Mercer was struggling at the plate through July when he came up in the 11th inning with two runners on. The Pirates’ now-second baseman stepped in 4-for-31 over the month with no extra-base hits. No time like walkoff time to stop a skid in front of 39,036 fans, PNC Park’s...

Game 93 Preview: Pirates vs. Mets

Mets (40-50) at Pirates (56-36) 1:35 PM–PNC Park, Pittsburgh MLB.com Gameday TV: ROOT The Pirates go for a sweep of the Mets today, and a win would clinch a share of first place and baseball’s best record heading in to the four-day All Star break. You know what else a win would do? It would tie the club record for most wins before the All Star break (1971 – when they won the...

Russell Martin Is Silky Smooth

I landed the first silk of my collection, and it appropriately is a Russ Martin silk.Numbered 05/50, it ran me just $3.50 delivered and - as is the norm for Russell's cards - comes complete with a great photo of the former Blue Crew backstop.

Pirates 3, Mets 2

All of a sudden people are feeling a lot better about the Pirates again after an exciting walkoff win over the Mets Friday night at sold out PNC Park. The Bucs have won two in a row and certainly appear to have put the four game losing streak in the rear view mirror. Leading up to the game, all the talk was about Pedro Alvarez, David Wright, and the Home Run Derby “drama.” Pedro...

Game 93: Pirates vs. Mets Recap

Source: FanGraphs It’s the first game since I took over the recap writing duties on this fine blog that I’ve had to write about the loss. I’ll wait while all of you thank me for preventing the collapse. A loss today seemed rather foreseeable though. Gerrit Cole is certainly no slouch but it’s never good…

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. New York Mets – Game 91

Come on guys.  Let’s win a series before the break.  Stop losing ground.  Stop the slide.  Give everyone some hope going into the All Star Break.  The mood is too gloomy for my liking.  Just a little dash of positivity. Maybe that little bit will help clear up the case of PTSD Pirates fans are…

Pittsburgh Heel Turn

Well I hope Pirates fans feel better now that they've gotten their anger out of their system towards David Wright. I hope their announcers are also happy that they fanned the flames of their already agitated fan base to stir up some sort of rah rah ballpark interest. Good for them. Even though they have four all-stars and 54 wins going into Friday's game, and therefore a...
