Great things come to those who wait, and Geno Atkins is a prime example of that saying. He waiting patiently and finally got the money he deserved.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Atkins and the Bengals have agreed to a five-year $55 million deal with $22 million of it coming to Atkins in the first six months.
Atkins was slated to earn only $1.4 million during the last year of his rookie contract. That’s a far cry from the $36 million in new money that he will earn over the first three years of his contract extension.
This seems like a small price to pay for one of the fastest rising defensive stars in the league. Atkins continues to get better and is a clear star for a solid defensive core in Cincinnati.
