About to enter the final year of his contract (the team has a $12.5 million option for 2011), Red Sox DH David Ortiz told the Boston Herald that he knows he needs to step up in 2010.
Ortiz says he plans to do just that and hopes to remain in Boston beyond next season. "I want to finish my career here," Ortiz told The Boston Globe. "I think I still have another three or four good years in me."
Despite a slow start this season (one homer, 18 RBIs through May), Ortiz finished with 28 homers and 99 RBIs. "Everybody is used to seeing me hitting 40 homers with 140 RBI," Ortiz said. "But I tell you, anybody will take 30 and 100. If I hit two more homers and get one more RBI next year than I did this year, what are people going to say?"
