Duke Athletics Press Release
DURHAM, N.C.-The Duke University men’s lacrosse team will begin the 2013 campaign considered among the nation’s best as the No. 4 and No. 6-ranked team in the Nike/Inside Lacrosse media and USILA coaches polls, respectively. The Blue Devils finished the 2012 season ranked fourth.
Duke, opening its 2013 season Feb. 9 against Denver, returns eight starters and 31 letterwinners from last year’s ACC Championship squad that finished 15-5 and advanced to the program’s sixth consecutive NCAA semifinal.
The Blue Devils come in behind Loyola, Maryland, Notre Dame, Johns Hopkins and North Carolina in the coach’s poll, while only the reigning NCAA Champion Greyhounds, Terrapins and Fighting Irish are the top three, respectively in the media poll.
Overall, Duke will play six of the top 10 programs, including the No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 squads on the USILA list. The 2013 season opens with No. 9 Denver and also includes No. 7 Virginia.
Seniors Bill Conners, David Lawson and Josh Offit will captain the team as it vies for its eighth ACC title and 17th NCAA Tournament berth. Duke, welcoming 15 newcomers to the program, is looking to fill holes left by All-Americans CJ Costabile, Michael Manley, Robert Rotanz and Justin Turri.
Duke returns five of its top seven scorers from a year ago and two of its starting three close defensemen and a three-year starter in goal in Dan Wigrizer.
With 11 home games on the schedule in 2013, Duke will host five of the top nine teams in the country. The Blue Devils went 9-0 last season at Koskinen Stadium and is 20-1 at home since 2011.
Following the opening weekend Feb. 9-10 against Denver and Jacksonville, respectively, Duke welcomes No. 3 Notre Dame and Mercer Feb. 16-17.

Blue Devils searching for new chemistry
Mike Krzyzewski didnt really implement major changes in his basketball teams approach until after it played several games without injured senior forward Ryan Kelly.
The coach wanted to see what his team looked like with Josh Hairston and then Amile Jefferson starting in Kellys spot in the lineup and exactly what his teams new weaknesses and strengths were. Like any good manager...
Is Rasheed Sulaimon the answer to Duke’s offensive woes without Ryan Kelly?
Duke needed a big statement win against Maryland on Saturday to get their season back on track. They did that, and then some, with their 20-point victory at home. More importantly, the Blue Devils found a third offensive weapon to help fill the void left when Ryan Kelly went out with an injury three weeks ago. Rasheed Sulaimon was slumping until Coach Mike Krzyzewski decided to...
Freshmen stepping up for No. 5 Duke
Two freshmen seem to be figuring things out at the right time for No. 5 Duke.
Guard Rasheed Sulaimon has rediscovered his shooting touch after a brief slump. And now that he's a starter, forward Amile Jefferson is doing all the little things that have been asked of him.
With the rookie tandem contributing more, the new-look Blue Devils (17-2, 4-2 ACC) hope they can keep moving...
#1 Duke 84 Maryland 64 Press Conference
After Duke’s blowout loss to Miami on Wednesday, they needed to make a statement in their follow-up game against Maryland on Saturday. How this Blue Devil team responded the first time back out after getting knocked on their ass would be indicative of how the rest of the season would proceed. It’s safe to say that the 20-point win Duke showed on Saturday afternoon bodes well...
Mason Plumlee’s Reverse Put-Back Dunk Gets Play of the Weekend Honors
How are you going to T Miles up here? Let the kid celebrate a ridiculous play for crying out loud. I looked around and there were some pretty sweet plays this weekend, but I have to give it to Miles. He gives the white man some hope. For those of you that care, Duke wiped out Maryland in this game 84-64.
Coach K offers Jabari Parker the opportunity to wear Jay Williams’ #22 Jersey
Duke Basketball landing Jabari Parker was huge for the Class of 2013. Not only is he a consensus top 3 recruit, but he can fill a whole in the Blue Devils’ lineup at the power forward position and add versatility to a lineup that is wing heavy with a number of shooting guard and small forward players in the lineup. Parker can play basically any position on the floor and will be...
#1 Duke 84 Maryland 64 Highlights
Duke bounced back extremely well from their loss to Miami against Maryland on Saturday, giving Maryland their largest margin of defeat on the season 84-64. The previous largest defeat for the Terrapins on the year was ten points to UNC and the Blue Devils doubled that with ease. They used a 16-6 run midway through the second half to blow the game open and trailed for less than two...
K: Team adapting without Kelly
Coach K says a lot has changed for his team since Ryan Kelly went down, but the Blue Devils are adapting better and better.
#1 Duke 84 Maryland 64 Four Factors
I haven’t done a four factors post in a while, mainly due to a lack of time. It has nothing to do with Duke’s resounding win over Maryland, I promise, although it is a little easier to write a post after an efficient offensive performance like the Blue Devils put forth on Saturday. For some background on the four factors, check out the post I did following the Kentucky game...
Duke Morning F.I.S.T. – January 29 Edition
Duke slipped from the #1 ranking yesterday, but didn’t fall far as they are the #5 team in the country according to both the AP Poll and Coaches’ Poll. This marks the 106th consecutive week that the Blue Devils have been in the AP Top 10, a staggering statement of consistency for Mike Krzyzewski’s program. They’ll seek their first road win tomorrow night against Wake Forest...

As we march our way deeper into the 2013 college basketball season, there isn’t a team that remains more interesting to casual fans than the Duke Blue Devils. Some people love them, some people hate them, but as is the case most years, no team is more interesting than Coach K’s bunch.
