In this episode of “Football Nation Today,” Alex talks about the latest stories around the NFL:1st Down: With only one quarter left in the regular season, Alex looks at the biggest storylines across the league as we continue into December:*After the Redskins beat the Giants on Monday night, we are in for a race to remember in the NFC East.  Alex says which of the three teams (Giants, Redskins and Cowboys) has the best chance of coming out on top.  Also, to state the obvious, Robert Griffin III is a mesmerizing talent.*The Texans and Patriots will meet this Monday in Foxboro to determine which team is the best in the AFC.  Though the Texans are a legitimate power, Alex says he thinks the Patriots are currently at the top of the conference.*The Steelers won a huge game against the Ravens on Sunday without Ben Roethlisberger.  If the Steelers remain the 6th seed, and the Colts remain the 5th seed in the AFC, it could have a massive effect on how teams at the top of the conference play out the string.*The NFC is wide-open in-terms of postseason seeding.  Alex tells you which teams have the inside track on a top seed, and what Jim Harbaugh should do after Colin Kaepernick struggled against St. Louis.*Andrew Luck led his team to another last-drive victory last week.  Can he lead the surprising Colts all the way to the playoffs? 2nd Down: Alex discusses the aftermath of the tragedy in Kansas City last weekend, and what lessons could be taken from the Jevon Belcher murder-suicide. Bob Costas has come under fire this week for using the Belcher tragedy as a way to discuss the need for greater gun control in his 90-second halftime “Sunday Night Football” soliloquy.  Alex says though you may not agree with Costas, he has every right to broach a greater societal topic following a tragedy of this caliber.  If incidents like these can’t serve as reason to look at an issue like gun control, what is?3rd Down: In the “Big Up or Slow Down” segment, Alex debates whether Mark Sanchez will play another down this season, if the Chargers have hit a new lowpoint and who the front-runner for the MVP race is.4th Down: In this week’s “Reimer Rant,” Alex rails against grown men who are infatuated with insignificant, manufactured records like “most consecutive games with a touchdown pass.”  These “men,” Alex says, are also the sycophants who refer to professional athletes by juvenile nicknames like “Megatron” and “RGIII.”
