Legendary broadcaster Bob Costas slammed the New York Mets’ walk-off celebration this afternoon, stating that their victory celebration was “another indication of the decline of western civilization”.
The Mets trailed 3-0 heading into the bottom of the 9th inning on Sunday afternoon before home runs from Marlon Byrd and Kirk Nieuwenhuis lifted them to a thrilling come-from-behind victory. The Mets managed to salvage the final game of their series against the Chicago Cubs while improving to 14 games under .500.
Costas noted that the Mets celebrated like they had won Game 7 of the NBA finals during the celebration before making the comment about the decline of western civilization.

Fred Wilpon spoke with Steven Marcus of Newsday on Monday and said he is confident in Sandy Alderson’s plan for the Mets. The Mets owner added that things will improve now that the big unproductive contracts are coming off the books.
“We’re coming to the end of the time when we have had an overhang of players who got hurt or didn’t play well, and I think that Sandy Alderson...
Zack Wheeler is expected to remain with Triple-A Las Vegas and throw his between-starts bullpen session with the Pacific Coast League club before joining the Mets on Monday in Atlanta. He is expected to pitch the nightcap of Tuesday’s doubleheader against the Braves at Turner Field.
Terry Collins said the nighttime assignment is designed to keep Wheeler in a routine.
Echoing what Terry Collins told reporters on Friday, Sandy Alderson told season ticket holders at Citi Field this morning, that Rafael Montero is a longshot to be promoted to the Mets this season. He cited an innings limit as the reason and said he’s currently about 70-80 innings away from being shutdown for the season.
Last season, Montero tossed just 122 innings and he is already...
Some of my greatest memories with my father have revolved around sports. High-fiving eachother after witnessing an Islanders overtime win at the Nassau Coliseum. Sitting on the LIRR on our way to the Giants ticker-tape parade while my dad called me in sick to school; the attendance secretary not buying it for a minute. Nearly getting our heads taken off by a Skip Schumaker foul ball...

MMO Player of the Week!
Just when we thought it couldn’t get any worse, the Mets go ahead and prove us wrong. Although it’s a long shot to say that anybody was expecting to win a series against the best team in baseball (and the way this team was playing, against the Cubs), hopes were not high coming into the week. The streaky defense and simply atrocious offense...

Been really tough to watch the Mets this year as all us die hards know. Even for me I just cant sit night after night watching the Mets score one or 2 runs with 5 hits. ZZZZZ . My partners in crime text me and ask are you watching this mess and I usually tell them I am busy with other things. A 2 year old will do that to you.
Of course yesterday being fathers day...

Normally when a pitcher throws a complete game on the road, it means they won. However, Mets fans know better than to think they are anything close to normal.
One night after the Mets continued the downward spiral of humanity by celebrating a game they didn’t deserve to win, Karma reared her ugly head and forced some the Mets’ own medicine down their throat.
Dillon Gee had perhaps...
Matt Oberste grew up in Oklahoma as a lone ranger. As the majority of the population flocked to the St. Louis Cardinals and Texas Rangers, he sought solace with another team: The New York Mets. His favorite player? David Wright, who he modeled himself after growing up.
Oberste was selected by the Mets in the seventh-round of the 2013 MLB Amateur Draft and quickly signed with the...
After 53 games of the 2013 baseball season, I think we have our enduring image. A defining moment. What it defines, I'm not sure. But it's going to wind up summing up this season perfectly:
That's Lucas Duda. In the seventh inning of a baseball game on Saturday with his team down by one run. Bunting. Willingly. Now mind you ... not only does Duda lead the Mets...
