Former Notre Dame head coach and college football analyst Bob Davie will be named the new head coach of the New Mexico Lobos, according to espn.com’s Joe Schad.
The position will mark the first time Davie has coached football in the collegiate ranks since he was released by Notre Dame ten years ago in 2001.
Raised in Western Pennsylvania, Davie attended Youngstown State University where he exceled as a star tight end. Following graduation, Davie took a graduate assistant position under Jackie Sherrill at the University of Pittsburgh. After multiple stints as a position coach for various universities, Davie finally landed at Texas A&M where he eventually became defensive coordinator in 1989. His defense was so successful that it was famously labeled the “Wrecking Crew."
