In a move that came as a surprise to Atlanta Braves fans around the country this week, manage Bobby Cox announced that he plans to retire at the conclusion of next season..
Attributing his future retirement to... His bedtime?"I just can't do these night games anymore. Not only am I missing Murder She Wrote at 8:30, but due to the lack of sleep, I wake up grumpy now!", Cox told reporters at a press conference to discuss the announcement.
"As you know, I am an emotional manager, and that leads to ejections.. But you know what leads to even more ejections? Grumpiness and senility, those are the real reasons I chase umpires these days" Cox admitted in front of a packed room Thursday afternoon.
Cox has had a long and illustrious career with the Braves organization, ranking fourth in career wins among managers all-time (2410), and first in ejections, (149).
