30 Sep 1990: Quarterback Bernie Kosar of the Cleveland Browns passes the ball during a game against the Kansas City Chiefs at Cleveland Stadium in Cleveland, Ohio. The Chiefs won the game, 34-0.
DAVIE, Fla. -- Bernie Kosar will turn 50 in November. But Brandon Gibson still called him a "little immature." Kosar, a former star University of Miami and Cleveland Browns quarterback who is now a Browns television analyst, was ripped by St. Louis coach Jeff Fisher for being overly critical of the Rams receivers, receivers coach and backup quarterback Kellen Clemens during a preseason telecast last week. Gibson, a Miami Dolphins wide receiver who played the previous four seasons with the Rams, stood up Wednesday for members of his former team. "It might have been a little immature of Bernie Kosar because they got a lot of explosive talent down there and they're going to do a great job," Gibson told FOX Sports Florida at training camp. "Clemens is a good quarterback, and I've got all the faith in the world Kellen can get the job done. It's the first preseason game of the year. I think Bernie was looking to stir up some news. But there's nothing you can do." Well, Kosar has put in a call to apologize to Fisher. And Browns CEO Joe Banner offered an apology to the Rams in a statement and said Kosar was out of line, although he will remain on the team's preseason broadcasts. Among other things, Kosar called the St. Louis receivers "horrible," said receivers coach Ray Sherman is "not doing very good either" and that he "can't stand watching (Clemens) play." Fisher then said he "lost a lot of respect for" Kosar and doubted "he knew anything about our football team." Gibson played just last year under Fisher, catching 51 balls for 691 yards. Even though he left after the season as a free agent, Gibson still has much respect for his former coach. "Fisher is a great coach," Gibson said. "And he's going to stand up for his guys." Kosar led Hurricanes to the national title as a redshirt freshman in 1983 and played in the NFL from 1985-96, including 1994-96 as a Dolphins backup. His legendary Hurricanes' team will have a 30th-anniversary celebration at Miami's opener, Aug. 30 against Florida Atlantic at Sun Life Stadium.
