On Thursday morning, Brandon Vera (pictured) made two significant announcements regarding his fight future. For starters, Vera is returning to the heavyweight division for his next scrap. Secondly, “The Truth” will battle Ben Rothwell August 31 at UFC 164.
“Good morning everyone!! I wanted to let y’all know it is conformed I am fighting Big Ben Rothwell on Aug 31st @ufc 164 @ heavyweight!!! Good times ahead.!!!!!” Vera tweeted.
Vera hasn’t been seen since dropping a unanimous decision defeat to Maurício “Shogun” Rua last August. Although the bout marked his third loss in five outings, he fought with a resiliency that impressed UFC president Dana White and fans alike.
This marks Vera’s first heavyweight tango since getting TKO’d by Fabricio Werdum in June of 2008.
Rothwell, meanwhile, has alternated between wins and losses over his past eight outings. The 31-year-old was most recently submitted by Gabriel Gonzaga in January.
Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin hosts the festivities.
No other bouts have been confirmed for the show at this time.
