MLB Injury News:
The Atlanta Braves are expected to welcome first baseman
Freddie Freeman back into the lineup today for the series opener against the Colorado
Rockies, according to Carroll Rogers of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Freeman was placed on the disabled list earlier this season
after suffering a strained right oblique. He sustained the injury during team
workouts, and he fought the club’s decision to place him on the DL. Before
officially hitting the shelf, the slugger had been playing through the injury.
Prior to being placed on the DL, Freeman was off to a hot
start, collecting seven hits in 17 at-bats with one home run and seven RBI.
In Freeman’s absence, Chris Johnson has been tearing the
cover off the ball while seeing regular playing time. With Freeman’s return,
the Braves are expected to continue to use Johnson in a regular role at third
base, rather than platooning him with Juan Francisco.
