Veteran Atlanta Braves catcher Brian McCann could miss the entire month of April as he continues to recover from a shoulder injury. Braves beat write David O’Brien reported via Twitter than GM Frank Wren said that McCann will not play in minor league game before April 16, thus leading us to believe that the former All-Star catcher will not report to the Braves before the end of the month.
McCann does not have much trouble hitting, however, he struggles to throw which is obviously something that would hinder a catcher.
Fantasy owners should consider McCann a low-end option this year regardless of the injury, as the 8-year veteran is coming off a career worst .230/20/67 season for the Braves.
We do recommend taking a flyer on him as a back up in deeper leagues, as he could be an upside pick if taken deep enough in the draft.

The Braves capped week-4 of Grapefruit League play over the weekend with a phenomenal outing by Julio Teheran, finishing the week with a 6-1 record.
Julio Teheran, as Andrew Hirsh wrote about here this week, has really thrived this Spring in a scenario that pins him against zero competition for the fifth starter spot. In Teheran’s 26 innings pitched this Spring, he has given up...
I think the Braves can win the NL East, even with the strength of the Nationals and the Phillies. Similar to the way everybody jumped on the Phillies band wagon the last couple seasons, the same has been said about the Nationals this season. As stacked as the Nationals are, the same was said about the Phillies last season. The Braves added OFs Justin Upton, BJ Upton and RHP Jordan...
The slow march toward Opening Day continues. Here are five things to ponder as the Braves check off another week of spring training and more that much closer to April 1.
1. Have we seen enough to believe Andrelton Simmons is ready to bat lead off?
The easy answer is yes after seeing the shortstop thrive in the World Baseball Classic as he hit .333 with a 1.016 OPS and scored 10...

Justin Upton is one of the most promising young players in baseball, and the Atlanta Braves are hoping he brings the pop he showed in 2011 over with him to his new team. Upton blasted 31 homers and drove in 88 runs with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2011. That total went down a disappointing 17 homers in 2012, but Upton left little doubt on Thursday...
I’ll start off by reminding you that despite the fact that Jason Heyward has played three full major league seasons, he’s still just 23 years old. What he’s accomplished to this point is pretty astounding, and by the time he peaks around age 26-28, he’s going to be a top-10 fantasy player. We’ve all heard [...]
KISSIMMEE, Fla. (AP) -- This is how Julio Teheran won a spot in the Atlanta Braves' rotation.
The rookie right-hander struck out 10 in six hitless innings and Dan Uggla hit one of three homers for a split-squad of Braves, who beat the Houston Astros 3-2 on Saturday.
Teheran, Atlanta's fifth starter, walked three while lowering his ERA to 1.04 in six starts.
B.J. Upton hit his first long ball of spring training to give Atlanta a late lead, but Darin Ruf connected for game-ending homer with two outs in the ninth inning Friday, lifting the Philadelphia Phillies to a 7-6 victory over Braves.
Upton homered to put Atlanta up 5-4 in the seventh and the Braves added a run on a double-play grounder in the eighth. The Phillies scored twice in...
VIERA, Fla. (AP) Bryce Harper had three hits and stole two bases, one day after he was scratched because of a swollen left hand, and Danny Espinosa went 3 for 3 with a three-run homer Sunday in the Washington Nationals' rain-shortened 9-3 win over the Atlanta Braves.
In a game called after seven innings because of bad weather, Washington's Jordan Zimmermann allowed three...
