Syd’quan Thompson and Jammie Kirlew
The Denver Broncos, not willing to risk losing a player or two they had targeted to the undrafted free agency sweepstakes, traded back into the seventh round of the 2010 NFL draft to select Cal cornerback Syd’quan Thompson (225th overall) and Indiana DE/OLB Jammie Kirlew (232nd overall).
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers received the Broncos’ 2011 fifth round draft pick in exchange for the two seventh rounders.
Thompson (5′9″, 186 lbs.) ran a very disappointing 40-time for his size (4.7) that saw his draft stock plummet. Some scouts had even considered him a potential first-round draft pick heading into the 2009 season. Thompson has some return skills and may compete in that area.
Kirlew (6′1″, 260 lbs.) is a ‘tweener prospect that may not have the size to play on the defensive front of the Broncos’ 3-4 defense but may lack the speed and athleticism to excel as a linebacker right away. Scouts aren...
