Rookie Travis Benjamin, the Cleveland Browns' fourth-round draft pick, will be in the mix for a starting wide receiver spot, coach Pat Shurmur told The Plain Dealer on Sunday. "I would say so," Shurmur said. "I saw a lot of good stuff from Travis this weekend and I feel like he'll only continue to get better." Shurmur expects the speedy receiver out of Miami to see significant time if he doesn't crack the starting lineup. The 5-foot-10, 172-pound Benjamin was the only receiver taken by Cleveland in the draft, sparking speculation that the team didn't do enough to address its shortage of pass-catchers for rookie quarterback Brandon Weeden. The Browns ranked 24th in the league in passing yards last season (3,090) and 27th in passing touchdowns (16). No Cleveland receiver was able to accumulate 1,000 receiving yards in 2011.

A Twitter follower without a date to prom asked Joe Haden if he'd like to take her, and much to her surprise, he replied back that he'd love to.

Browns conclude first rookie mini-camp

BEREA The Browns concluded their rookie minicamp with one practice Sunday and Pat Shurmur was pleased with what was accomplished. It was a good and productive minicamp, Shurmur said. It was a very good start, but we have a long way to go. Shurmur said it served as an orientation on what will transpire in the coming days and months. Tomorrow, these (rookies) will be in the off...

Keeping Perspective on Browns Rookie Camp Storylines

I was unable to make it to rookie camp this weekend to see and behold the skills of Brandon Weeden and Trent Richardson. In some ways that’s probably a good thing. I learned last year in regular training camp that it is quite a vacuum to look at football. Without some serious perspective it is easy to think the team is far better or far worse than reality. That doesn’t mean it...

It’s safe to say that the Cleveland Browns coaching staff is in love with Trent Richardson

We knew that the Cleveland Browns liked Trent Richardson a lot. Heck, they basically traded their draft away to get the man. And though the greatest player to ever put on a Cleveland Browns jersey thinks Richardson is just “ordinary”, the Browns coaching staff couldn’t disagree more. And after what Richardson showed them at last weekend’s rookie mini-camp, the Browns coaching...

Weeden shines at his first Browns mini-camp

BEREA -- Significant judgments from a rookie minicamp can be dangerous. But preliminary thoughts on how a guy throws, catches or runs are possible. And Cleveland Browns quarterback Brandon Weeden has provided some positive vibes for the team that drafted him and its long-suffering fan base. It does not translate into success with James Harrison or Geno Atkins bearing down on Weedens...

Browns not interested in Plaxico Burress, yet

On Friday, Cleveland Browns head coach pat Shurmur stated that they’re currently not interested in signing free agent wide receiver Plaxico Burress.  At least not yet. “We haven’t talked about Plax right now,” said Shurmur. Of course at any moment the Browns could start to pursue Burress, but right now we’re just speculating.  They clearly need a number one receiver and...

Browns make roster moves

The Browns have cut running back Armond Smith and signed linebacker Emmanuel Acho, one of their 11 draft picks. Smith made Cleveland's roster last season as an undrafted free agent. He played in three games and spent 11 weeks on the team's practice squad. Acho, who started 48 career games at Texas, was selected in the sixth round. His signing leaves running back Trent Richardson...

Browns Quarterbacks: a Competition or a Side Show

The Cleveland Browns after completing their rookie mini-camp over the weekend will now be throwing the veterans into the mix. Media outlets have quickly began their assault for ratings regarding the Browns with headlines such as "QB competition heats up this week", "Colt McCoy Vs. Brandon Weeden" and several others that would have a WWE promoter green with envy...

Tonight at 6 Browns Running Back Montario Hardesty CS360 Show

Drafted in the second round of the 2010 draft Hardesty has the promises of being one of the best running backs in the NFL. Montario has been hampered by injuries since joining the Cleveland Browns and hasn’t been able to perform to the potential he has. The same type of thing...

Cleveland Browns fans: Dealing with the five stages of grief.

Recently, I have come to the conclusion that as Cleveland Browns fans’, we all need lots of professional help. In working towards a degree in the field of Psychology (counseling) I have been introduced to numerous psychological conditions and processes that we as Browns fans, apparently suffer from. Everything from schizophrenia, and narcissism, to bipolar disorder we appear to...

Browns’ Phil Taylor to have surgery on his torn pectoral

Phil Taylor tore his pectoral muscle last week lifting weights and he’ll have surgery to repair it this week on May 16th. The recovery time is expected to be 4-6 months for the 2011 1st round pick out of Baylor. He’ll almost definitely start the season on the PUP and might not play until November or December or not at all if the Browns are predictably out of the mix by that point...

Phil Taylor’s injury is a shame, but it doesn’t happen “only in Cleveland”

Follow @ClevelandDTR By: Eric Grinnell The excitement around the Cleveland Browns first rookie mini-camp was dulled quite a bit yesterday by the news that defense tackle Phil Taylor suffered a torn pectoral muscle and will miss 5-6 months. Like everyone else, I was really disappointed when I heard the news—I just wrote in my early look at the Browns defense that Taylor was...

Browns: Rookie QB 'to be the guy'

The Cleveland Browns will have a quarterback competition. They expect rookie Brandon Weeden to win it. Speaking before a banquet for Browns fans, general manager Tom Heckert said the team drafted Weeden out of Oklahoma State in the first round with the idea he would start in his first season. Heckert's comments came one day before the Browns hold their first organized training...
