Welcome to Cadence Call, your weekly game preview where I give you a bootleg breakdown for each team in the AFC East & AFC North divisions. The Buffalo Bills (0-1) and the Carolina Panthers (0-1) both lost close games last week to potential play-off teams. One of these teams will be 0-2 by the end of Sunday (total unique football analysis there, mates). Who is it going to be? Well, tilt back a few Genesee cream ales and do not forget to look for the gift underneath the cap while you light up a Rocky Patel Olde World Reserve maduro.Stack-em, pack-em and rack-em, let’s get it on.Cadence Call regular season record (1-5). Now, on to the game preview.Carolina Panthers @ Buffalo Bills (Sunday Sept 15, 1:00PM ET) *Line: Carolina -3 This game will feature two starting quarterbacks, Bills’ E.J. Manuel and Panthers’ Cam Newton who are young and talented. However, call me crazy, maybe, but this game will be a defensive battle.I was shockingly surprised at how intense and hard hitting the Bills defense was last week. Defensive coordinator, Mike Pettine, has infused a saucy intensity with ever-changing schemes and the Bills’ defense looks much improved. The Panthers will want to attack the Bills depleted secondary as Stephon Gilmore, Ron Brooks and most likely Jairus Byrdare all out.The Bills’ defense will have to contend with Panthers’ tight end Greg Olsen and wide receiver Steve Smith. If the Bills’ defense can match the hard-nosed “Ed Gennero” intensity they showed against the Patriots, Cam Newton beware. The Panthers’ defense features pass rusher Charles Johnson, rookie defensive tackle Star Lotulelei and quality linebacker Luke Kuechly. The black cats will look to chase and put a hurt on Manuel and try to slow down the two-headed rushing attack of C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson. With WR Marquise Goodwin out with an injured hand, look for Manuel to go down field to deep threat T.J. Graham.Vegas have the Panthers -3 and this is a tough game to pick, as one should only waste their wife’s loot occasionally. The weather looks good for game time with partly sunny skies and a high of 65°F. It will be a hard fought defensive affair and if you add a few Rum Runners with your Gennys and a Cain F to go with your Olde World Reserve, I think our heads clear up enough to see that Newton and the Carolina defense can take one from the Bills in Orchard Park.Remember, a black panther is just a melanistic color variation of several other species of large cat. However, against the Bills, they will be their own group atop the food chain so lick it, slam it, suck it and take the Panthers -3 and enjoy the show. Panthers 27, Bills 17. *Football lines provided by Bovada at the time of this writing are subject to change.
