Cliff Lee were not available. With his third blown save of the season, and week for that matter, yesterday, you have to wonder if some of the trade talk is wearing on Papelbon. At the same time, it is refreshing to know that outside the Phillies’ bubble, others believe that Papelbon would be available should the Phillies fall out of contention. Entering today, the Phillies are 6.5 games out, the closest they have been since May 29 when they were 5.5 games out after a win at home against Boston.

Orbiting Cleveland: The case to acquire Cliff Lee

When it comes to Major League Baseball, there may be no better period than the one ahead. That's right, we are now more than halfway through the month of June, which means July is right around the corner. Of course, that also means that the trade deadline is almost just a month away. For MLB teams, the stakes are high, and there is no more enjoyable time for fans. There's...

Manuel set to knock out media member

Do you think Charlie Manuel had cued up some vintage LL Cool J before the manager met the press after the Phillies game on Friday? After being pressed by a longtime Philly sports media provocateur, Howard Eskin, about the Phillies' lack of offense, Manuel was leaving the podium when Eskin asked him one last question: "When are you going to score 10 runs?" Manuel responded...

Stop with the Hamels 2013 and Lee 2012 comparisons

The first things some fans want to bring up in regards to Cole Hamels 2013 season is how similar Hamels’ run is to that of Cliff Lee in 2012. I will agree that Hamels deserves a couple more wins than he has, but Lee in 2012 outperformed Hamels to this point by a mile. Lee finished 2012 with a 6-9 record and a 3.16 ERA with 207 Ks in 217 IP. No question Lee has pitched better...

Top 10 reasons why Charlie Manuel is questioning whether the Phillies can make a run

Um, Were 10) Have not done much with the momentum gained from the thrice-annual return of Chase Utley from the disabled list 9) Should actually have a worse record based on run differential and the number of times they've already played the Marlins, so they've actually been lucky so far this year 8) Philly Fan is already starting to look past this team for the option of...

Phillies' Jonathan Pettibone expects to make next start after departing early

Philadelphia Phillies starter Jonathan Pettibone was removed from last night's start before the seventh inning with discomfort in his back but still expects to be ready for his next outing. The Philadelphia Enquirer's Matt Gelb tweeted the news, saying that the back was actually an issue for the whole game. Pettibone’s back bothered him all game. He feels better after...

Phillies' Mike Stutes lands on the DL

The Philadelphia Phillies can add another name to their ever-growing list of injured players.  Mike Stutes is heading for the disabled list with a biceps issue.  His placement on the DL forces the Phillies to call up Phillippe Aumont from Triple-A. Phillies place RHP Mike Stutes on the DL with right bicep tendinitis and recall RHP Phillippe Aumont from triple-A Lehigh Valley...

Phillies-Padres Preview

While their teams own lackluster records, the Philadelphia Phillies' Cliff Lee and the San Diego Padres' Eric Stults have both shined lately. Lee will pursue an eighth consecutive win when the Phillies visit San Diego on Monday night while Stults goes for his third straight victory. Philadelphia (36-40) has dropped 10 of 15 since moving above .500 for the only time this...

Mike Adams May Need Surgery; Could He Have Thrown Last Pitch For The Phillies?

The Phillies signed Mike Adams to be a stabilizing force in the Phillies bullpen in the eighth inning. Now it appears the Phillies will return to instability for a significant period of time as it is looking more and more that Adams could require surgery that few have recovered from...

FREDDY GALVIS: BUTTKICKER

I wanted to take a moment from my impending deportation from Chile to address Freddy Galvis' walk-off celebration. He kicks butts. He kicks them rather hard. I went back and reviewed the Phillies' walk off wins this year and Freddy kicks the man with the walk off hit right square...

Scout.com Player of the Week: Ryan Howard

After a .219 season at the plate in 2012, Ryan Howard is making serious headway on the Comeback Player of the Year front, and this past week, the Phillies needed their big man in a big way.

About Last Night: I went to bed just before the implosion in San Diego

Cliff Lee was masterful last night in San Diego. Chase Utley hit a home run, Dom Brown flashed some leather in left field and the San Diego Padres looked to be no problem for the Phillies on the start of a ten game west coast swing. With the Phillies up 3-0 entering the bottom of the ninth and it already half past midnight I was growing so tired that I just could not manage to fight...

Padres rally against Lee, Papelbon

Kyle Blanks singled home the winning run in the 10th inning for his fourth hit of the game, and the San Diego Padres rallied from a three-run deficit in the ninth to beat the Philadelphia Phillies 4-3 Monday night. Blanks also had a two-run single and scored the tying run on a passed ball in the ninth as the Padres fought back against Cliff Lee and struggling closer Jonathan Papelbon...

Phillies Weekly Preview, 6/24-6/30

Are we back in 1997? Why are we still writing about this team? I don't know, but I don't ever stop caring. Even at 36-40, even when Karma finally bit us and convinced us that we stunk, after losses to the Mets. PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES (36-40, NL East-3) @ SAN DIEGO...

While You Were Drinking: Game 77 (SD vs. PHI)

Sometimes things get a little fuzzy after a night in the pub. Here’s a friendly reminder of what you might have missed while you were drinking. Last night my daughter and I met up with grandpa to catch a good pitcher’s duel and for the most part Eric Stults and Cliff Lee delivered. Unfortunately Lee was better, mowing down the Padres in quick innings of work. With a 3-0 lead...
