Free agent preview: Texas Rangers

After their late-season collapse and early exit in the Wild Card round, big changes could be in store for the Rangers, including the possible, if not likely, departure of Josh Hamilton.  They definitely won't take their disappointing season lying down though and figure to be extremely active on the free agency and trade market. Needs Before Texas can start rebuilding themselves...

Adrian Beltre wins his fourth Gold Glove award

Texas Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre said he thinks he's a regular third baseman or just above average. The hardware he keeps collecting means otherwise. Beltre won his second-consecutive Gold Glove Tuesday and the fourth in the last six years. He was the lone Ranger to win an award as finalists Elvis Andrus (shortstop) and David Murphy (left field) didn't make the...

Rangers decline Feldman, Tateyama options

The Texas Rangers declined the options on right-handers Scott Feldman and Yoshinori Tateyama Tuesday, making both pitchers free agents. If the Rangers would have picked up the option on Feldman, they would have owed him 9.25 million for the 2013 season. They opted for a 600,000 buyout. Feldman won 39 games for the Rangers in his 204 appearances. He was the club's pitcher...

The moves will cost the Rangers 80 seats as far as seating capacity (from 48,194 to...

Feldman, 29, shuttled back and forth between...

New hitting coach Dave Magadan may be the only new face in for the major league coaching staff for the Texas Rangers, but he's not the only person in a new job. The Rangers announced Thursday that Gary Pettis and Dave Anderson are changing jobs. Pettis will handle the third base coaching duties and Anderson will work at first base. Pettis has been the club's first base...

Rangers switching base coaches Pettis, Anderson

The Texas Rangers are flip-flopping their base coaches, moving Gary Pettis to third and Dave Anderson to first. Manager Ron Washington believes Pettis' base-running prowess as a player will allow him to react more quickly and possibly take more chances, allowing the Rangers to potentially score more runs. Pettis, who had 354 stolen bases in 14 major league seasons, has been...

Magadan takes over as Rangers' hitting coach

In nearly 18 months as the Rangers' hitting instructor, Scott Coolbaugh oversaw an offense that ranked first in the majors in runs per game, batting average, slugging percentage and on-base-plus-slugging percentage. This would normally be enough to get a coach a raise. Instead it got him reassigned. Acknowledging something -- even if it wasn't clearly identifiable --...

MLB Rumors: Can Josh Hamilton Make a Return to Tampa Bay?

What a great story it would be to see Josh Hamilton return to the team that drafted him. As a free agent this offseason, there is a possibility that this could be the case. Hamilton never played a Major League game with the Tampa Bay Rays. After he was drafted, he was the number one prospect in the Rays’ organization.
