PLAYERS: Calvin Johnson
TEAMS: Detroit Lions
Earlier this week, Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson mentioned that he’s had a hard time closing his hand due to a possibility that he suffered nerve damage from a concussion. Now Johnson claiming that he never suffered a concussion or nerve damage. “I would like to clarify some of my comments from yesterday,” Johnson said in a statement released through the team’s media relations department, per The Detroit News. “I am aware that I did not suffer a concussion in our game against the Vikings earlier this year. I misused the terms ‘nerve damage’ and ‘concussion.’ “I have not suffered any nerve damage nor have I received any treatment for nerve damage. I did suffer a stinger and have also experienced the kind of wear and tear that most NFL players are dealing with at this point in the season.” “With respect to the Minnesota game on Sept. 30, Calvin sustained a hit that resulted in him being removed from the game and evaluated pursuant to the appropriate concussion protocol by our team doctors,” said a statement released by the Lions. “He was also subsequently examined the following day and was found to have no concussion. “Additionally, Calvin did not suffer any nerve damage. He sustained what is referred to as a ‘stinger’ and was able to finish the game.” Sounds like the Lions are trying to cover up Johnson’s comments from earlier in the week.   var _CI = _CI || {}; (function() { var script = document.createElement('script'); ref = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; _CI.counter = (_CI.counter) ? _CI.counter + 1 : 1; document.write(''); script.type = 'text/javascript'; script.src = 'http://widget.crowdignite.com/widgets/27484?_ci_wid=_CI_widget_'+_CI.counter; script.async = true; ref.parentNode.insertBefore(script, ref); })(); sr_adspace_id = 1000005525107; sr_adspace_width = 300; sr_adspace_height = 250; sr_ad_new_window = true; sr_adspace_type = "graphic";

Lions Injury Report: Calvin Johnson Has Nerve Damage

Even an artificial life form made of non-human parts is still human.  Megatron, or Calvin Johnson if you prefer, said he suffered nerve damage when he took two big hits in the Detroit Lions' game against the Minnesota Vikings back in September.  In that game, Johnson also admitted to suffering a concussion that he played through. According to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free...

Madden Curse: Is Calvin Johnson Just Further Proof?

Every year there is this big deal about the so called “Madden Curse” that says whoever the cover athlete is will have a bad season due to poor play, injury and other things.  And every year, most scoff at such a thing. But after another season in which a player is struggling after being featured on the cover, when will skeptics and the athletes alike give credit to the...

Lions: Johnson Did Not Suffer Nerve Damage

After comments earlier this week that a vicious collision might have resulted in "some nerve damage" (and affected his play), receiver Calvin Johnson did an aboutface on Friday, and the Detroit Lions looked to distance themselves from what has turned into media firestorm.

NFL looked into Megatron’s concussion but not his “nerve damage”… still cue the Madden curse claims

On September 30th, Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson endured a vicious helmet-to-helmet hit from Vikings linebacker Chad Greenway. In the weeks after the game, Johnson claimed that he suffered a concussion and is now saying he suffered nerve damage to the extent that it’s affecting the grip he gets on the ball. However the funny thing about Johnson’s claim is it hasn’t appeared...

Lions take issue with Vikes’ hits on Johnson

The Detroit Lions weren’t happy with at least three plays that targeted Calvin Johnson and another in which CB Chris Houston was hurt. Johnson also had some controversy surrounding his first game with the Vikings, but Mistral Raymond said Johnson’s size might contribute to hits around the head.

Calvin Johnson and Jim Schwartz still disagree on concussion

Lions receiver Calvin Johnson was the recipient of a nasty hit from Vikings linebacker Chad Greenway in week four.  He hadn’t been lighting the world on first in the first three weeks of the season and despite being third in the NFL in receiving yards, he hasn’t been putting up Megatron-like numbers. He has openly battled bumps and bruises to his knees, and wrist and has sat...

Calvin Johnson’s Nerve Injury Serves as Reminder of Madden Curse’s Power Over NFL

Another year, another Madden video game, another star athlete suffering an injury that severely hampers his performance. Calvin Johnson No Longer On Fantasy Owners’ Nerves

Before this weekend hit, Calvin Johnson admitted he’d been playing dinged up stating he had suffered nerve damage week 4 which was affecting his grip.  Unfortunately for most of the fantasy community who drafted him, it affected their grip as well as Johnson became constant ‘should I trade him?’ fodder across the fantasy football community.  Not to toot my own horn – namely...
