The Vancouver Canucks have announced that Nolan Baumgartner will be an assistant coach of the Chicago Wolves. Baumgartner will join newly appointed head coach Scott Arniel behind the bench next season.

Baumgartner who was originally drafted 10th overall by the Capitals in 1994, spent time with Washington, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Dallas and Vancouver. “Baumer” has he’s called by teammates suited up for 143 NHL contests and 887 AHL games. He’s spent the last five seasons with the Vancouver Canucks organization, captaining the Manitoba Moose and the Chicago Wolves.

There’s a few things I remember most about Nolan Baumgartner. One of them being that he almost got to play in the Cup finals instead of Keith Ballard. How big of a kick in the dick would that have been to that already low confidence of Ballard? Man. Also, I don’t know why but I always remember him gift wrapping a pass to an Oiler for a quick and easy OT win against Vancouver years back. Stupid memory.

Anyways, congrats to Nolan Baumgartner. If there was a guy who deserves this, it’s him. Never heard a bad thing about him. Glad he’s finally getting recognition. Also, I’d like to say how awesome this picture is. Please tweet me your captions. It’s a quality picture.
