Washington Capitals defenseman Mike Green will face an NHL disciplinary hearing Friday as a result of his head to the head of Tampa Bay rookie Brett Connolly in Thursday's game.

Green drove his upper left arm and shoulder into the head of Connolly, who had been ridden into the boards by Capitals defenseman Dmitry Orlov and was in a vulnerable position.

Although no penalty was called on the play, Lightning coach Guy Boucher said there was no question the league had to review the hit.

“It’s right at the head. The head’s targeted. For me, it’s clear,” Boucher said. “The ref didn’t see it. But, you know, the refs are on the ice. They can’t see everything. It happens so fast. There’s people beside them."

Green has been suspended one other time in his career, getting docked three games for elbowing Michal Frolik in the head in January 2010.

Injuries have limited Green to 20 games this season. He has three goals and three assists.
