Carl Edwards arrives at the Martinsville Speedway with one top 5 and five top 10s in 16 career starts on the paperclip shaped track. For Sunday’s TUMS Fast Relief 500, Edwards hopes to build on strong runs the last two times out. He finished 11th in the spring, and was ninth one year ago while battling for the title. While he won’t be going for the title this weekend, he will be trying to get his first win here. Team:           No. 99 Geek Squad/West Coast Customs Ford Fusion Crew Chief:   Chad Norris Chassis:       RK-815    Last ran Loudon, finished 19th POINTS RACING…Carl Edwards enters Martinsville 14th in the NASCAR Sprint Cup point standings.  He has earned three top-five, 13 top-10 finishes and one pole this season. FOR THE RECORD… In 16 starts at the 0.526-mile track, Edwards has one top-five and five top-10 finishes. His average start is 17.8, and his average finish is 16.0.  Edwards has completed 97.7 percent of his laps in Cup competition attempted there. IN THE LOOP… According to NASCAR’s Loop Statistics compiled over the last 16 races at Martinsville, Edwards has turned 110 of the track’s fastest laps, spent 4,116 laps in the top 15, and has led 31 laps there. ON THE TRACK… The No. 99 Geek Squad Team will unload RK-815 for the weekend. Edwards last raced this car at Loudon last month where he finished 19th. REWIND, MARTINSVILLE, OCTOBER 2011… Although he started on the pole based on points, he was scored a lap down twice during the race.  With timely cautions resulting in two lucky dog awards, Edwards was able to break into the top 10 with 17 laps to go and ultimately finish ninth. Carl Edwards on racing at Martinsville Speedway:  “I am pretty slow at Martinsville. We have just been terrible there the last couple of years. The test in August helped a little bit. I think we have a better game plan there and if we can get a top five at Martinsville and run up front all day that would be a huge step forward for us. I think that 2013 test helped a little bit and it is time for us to have a good run. I think Chad and all the guys are working really hard on it.” Crew chief Chad Norris on racing at Martinsville Speedway:  “Martinsville has always been a challenge for us so I know it won’t be an easy weekend.  We’ve got a good car and if we can get it to turn through the center, and remind Carl to be patient so he saves his brakes, then hopefully we can come out of there with at least a top-10 finish.”
