The Anetzberger Verdict:
Despite having his scoring average down .7 points from his career average, Carmelo is putting together one of his best seasons in Denver. His rebounding and assists numbers are up and the Nuggets aren't performing terribly. At this point in the midst of trade rumors, the Nuggets have a firm grip on the entire situation. Teams interested are the hand of E. Stanley Kroenke and right now he's playing them intelligently.
For the Knicks, would it be worth it to send away nearly all of the meat of your team? If to happen, New York would likely have to give up Landry Fields, Danilo Gallinari, Eddy Curry's expiring contract, and either a draft pick and/or cash considerations. This would evaporate the nucleus of the Knicks chemistry which right now is operating in its prime. No doubt adding Carmelo would help but would it be worth it to nearly start over? The only way their run and gun offense would work with Anthony is if the Knicks also received a shooter from Denver, maybe J.R. Smith.
You also can't count out New Jersey. They were there first and have recently been in talks with a larger package for the trade. Anthony has stated before, specifically during his one visit to Madison Square Garden that if the Nuggets were to trade him, his first and only choice would be New York.
Clearly right now the trade situation has been put on hold with the death of his sister. The last thing Anthony wants is to hear his name in the news, especially during a time so close to the holidays.
If I were Carmelo, I would wait for back up in New York, or wait it out in Denver and play the free agent market.
