They say, to find a worthwhile job, it’s not what you know, but who you know. While that adage doesn’t usually apply to NFL players, it certainly rang true for Terrell Owens, now gainfully employed.

Before the Seahawks decided to bring Owens aboard, coach Pete Carroll wanted to get a feel for the mercurial receiver, so he spoke with quarterback Carson Palmer, who had nothing but good things to say about his former teammate.

“He loved working with him, loved playing with him. He worked out with him, and knows him really well,” Carroll said, via the Associated Press. “It was really pleasing to hear that.”

Palmer is familiar with Carroll, having played under him at Southern California, so he knows Owens would be a great — not good — fit. The Raiders quarterback gave his old coach one hell of an endorsement.

“Just knowing (Carroll’s) style and the way he goes about teaching and leading his team, I just thought T.O. would be a great fit,” Palmer said. “I really enjoyed playing with (Owens). It was a great relationship when I was there, and I just let coach know I thought he would fit in really well with his style. I think they’ll have a lot of success together.”

After a year away from the game, recovering from knee surgery and various off-field issues, Owens was “looking for a spot anywhere he could go.” Luckily, the 38-year-old found one in Seattle. Now it’s time for him to show Palmer is more than just a good reference, and capitalize on what may be his last NFL opportunity.
