Landon Cassill (photo courtesy of NASCAR Media)With Red Bull Racing and TRG Motorsports being absent from the NASCAR landscape in 2012, several published reports have a group of investors from the TRG organization that fielded a No. 71 entry in the Sprint Cup Series for driver Andy Lally in 2011 buying some assets from the now-defunct Red Bull Racing NASCAR team, including the owner points from that organization’s No. 83 entry that was driven by Brian Vickers in 2011.
The new, still to release its name organization, reportedly, plans to field a No. 83 car in Sprint Cup Series competition in 2012 with Landon Cassill behind the wheel. Cassill raced a partial Cup schedule for Phoenix Racing’s No. 51 team in 2011. Kurt Busch is slated to drive the No. 51 this year.
The new organization is said to also be considering fielding a second Sprint Cup entry, a No. 93 car, to possibly be driven by Travis Kvapil.
