The Cleveland Cavaliers lost veteran big man Anderson Varejaoover the winter last year to a knee injury. Varejao was then diagnosed with a blood clot, an ailment that ultimately ended his 2012-13 campaign. After missing 57 games last year, Varejao has been cleared medically for basketball activities for the start of training camp, according to Terry Pluto of The Plain Dealer.Including last year’s extended absence, Varejao has missed 149 games over the past three seasons. That’s the bad news. The good news is that when he’s been able to suit up, Varejao has been impressive for the Cavs. Prior to his knee injury and blood clot issue last season, Varejao was putting together his best statistical season in Cleveland. It will be interesting to see how the Cavs handle Varejao, but Pluto says the clear path would be not pushing him too hard, too early. It’s not clear if too much playing time is what cost Varejao much of his 2012-13 campaign, but you can bet he’ll be eyed closer than most moving forward considering his injury history.Follow @hoopsinjurynews
