Cecil Shorts III is an underdog success story, having come out of the tiny, 2,200-student University of Mount Union in Ohio as an undersized wide receiver to carve a place for himself with the Jacksonville Jaguars in the last two years. The former track star was sidelined for the end of last season with a concussion, but he is positioned to be one of the top targets this year for whoever ends up throwing passes for the Jags.
Competition could be on the way for Shorts, though, and it could be coming from his own home.
Shorts’ son, Cecil Shorts IV, donned his dad’s helmet and receiver’s gloves on the field during practice on Wednesday, looking right at home at Jacksonville training camp. Lil’ Shorts was predictably adorable, motivating Florida Times-Union photographer Bob Self to snap a picture of the future NFL star.
Check out Shorts IV below.

Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew had some fun at the expense of players picked ahead of him in the 2006 NFL Draft, making a joke about where they are now.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. A wide-brimmed hat and black shorts don't represent the type of uniform Justin Blackmon would be wearing in an ideal situation during Jacksonville Jaguars training camp.
And he would rather be on the receiving end of passes from quarterbacks Blaine Gabbert or Chad Henne than from strength and conditioning coach Tom Myslinski.
But that's what the Jaguars...
There are different ways that athletes motivate themselves. Just the simple desire to win and be the very best they can possibly be is enough. Some looks elsewhere for inspiration. The most popular one in recent years is to feel slighted because teams NFL team’s drafted someone or several someones in front of you. Such is the case with Maurice Jones-Drew, who is still quick to...
The Jacksonville Jaguars now have three long-snappers in training camp.
The Jaguars were awarded rookie Luke Ingram off waivers from Pittsburgh on Friday, giving them three long-snappers on the roster.
Jacksonville says it has no plans to part ways with veteran Jeremy Cain or rookie Carson Tinker in the near future, so all three will compete for one roster spot.
The 6-foot-5 Ingram...
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Blaine Gabbert is back at practice, two days after spraining his right ankle.
Gabbert had his right ankle heavily taped Wednesday for the team's first practice in full pads.
Gabbert injured his ankle late in practice Monday when guard Uche Nwaneri stepped on him during 11-on-11 drills.
Tests were negative, and coach...
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Jeremy Mincey has been sidelined with a possible concussion.
Coach Gus Bradley says Mincey has a "head contusion," adding that the veteran is seeing a neurologist Friday for more testing.
Bradley says Mincey banged his head during drills Thursday.
Mincey has started the last 40 games for Jacksonville. He has 262...
With only one more day until the Jaguars hold their first scrimmage of training camp, there is plenty to be pleased with in terms of the team and the progress made by head coach Gus Bradley and his staff. But as always, there is still more improvements to be made. The hot Florida sun has been almost as relentless as the first-year head coach and his approach to the game, the team...
Maurice Jones-Drew was one of the final players selected in the second round of the 2006 NFL Draft, and he seems to still feel some type of way about it.
While talking to the Associated Press, Jones-Drew made the comment that “half guys drafted before him are all working at Target now.”
Best line of @Jones_Drew32's tenure: "Half the guys drafted in front of me are working...
Ben Volin reports that free agent WR Laurent Robinson, will work out for the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday.
Robinson has already met with a number teams since deciding to return to NFL including the Dolphins, Jets, Lions and Patriots. He has yet to receive a contract for any of them.
Robinson last played for the Jaguars in 2012, but suffered multiple concussions, which subsequently...
Jacksonville quarterback Blaine Gabbert has left the Jaguars' preseason game against the New York Jets because of a sprained right thumb.
Gabbert, competing with Chad Henne for the starting job, appeared to bang his throwing hand on one of the Jets' defensive players' helmets Saturday night. He was replaced by Henne late in the second quarter, but the Jaguars announced...
Because of the uncertainty of their quarterback situation, I will not project either of their quarterbacks. Neither should be drafted.
RB Maurice Jones Drew (Jacksonville)
MJD returns from an injury plagued season in which he played just 6 games and saw just 86 carries before going down with a foot injury. It’s possible he could bounce back this season, but he is going into his...
Maurice Jones-Drew has been in the league for a long time and he’s always excited us on and off the field. Well the Jacksonville Jaguars running back continued that yesterday with the comments he made after practice. MJD has been in the league 2006 but had to wait till late in the second round to get drafted and still holds a grudge about it. He talked about it yesterday.
The Jaguars won just 2 games last season. Usually teams who are that bad bounce back at least somewhat the following season. It’s really hard to be that bad for that long. Going along with that, the Jaguars also have a pre-season over/win total of 5.5 wins and teams with an over/under win total of 6 or fewer usually see the over hit about 2/3rds of the time, largely...
