Photo via CBSSports.com Press Release: "The Boston Celtics announced today that they have added Ron Adams, Micah Shrewsberry, and Walter McCarty to the team as assistant coaches. Per team policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed. Adams, Shrewsberry, and McCarty join Jamie Young and Jay Larranaga on Head Coach Brad Stevens' coaching staff."  Earlier today Brad Stevens and the Celtics informed the press that they had officially finalized a coaching staff for the 2013-14 campaign and beyond. In the wake of his departure, former Celtics head coach Doc Rivers left behind three assistant coaching vacancies - sparing both Jamie Young and Jay Larranaga - which would eventually lead to Stevens' responsibility of filling those voids. As a result, Stevens searched high and low before landing Ron Adams (a Chicago Bulls assistant the last three years), Micah Shrewsberry (a Purdue University assistant the last three years), and, most recently, Walter McCarty (last served as an assistant for the Indiana Pacers during the 2010-11 season)."I am really excited about our assistant coaching staff that we have here in Boston," stated Stevens in the press release. "In this group, we have successfully assembled a passionate, intelligent, hard-working, and humble staff with a diverse set of experiences in coaching. We are all eager to get to work with this year's team, and take great pride in being a part of the Boston Celtics organization." The newly named staff is appropriately tailored to Stevens' needs, after all, he put it together. They have a guy in McCarty who knows exactly what it will be like for the players going through the current rebuilding period due to time spent on losing Celtics teams during his playing career, a familiar face in Shrewsberry who worked under Stevens from 2007-11 at Butler, and a trio of guys who have tasted success at the NBA level in Adams, Larranaga, and Young.

Does Rondo Need His Own Coach?

The first thing that was mentioned right after the Celtics named Brad Stevens their new coach was whether or not he could handle the mercurial Rajon Rondo. Rondo had just mentioned in an interview that he loved playing for Doc and wanted to play for him. Then Doc went to LA and suddenly, Rondo had a new coach and no one knew how he would react. One of Stevens' first acts...

Celtics will pay Memphis more than Melo's salary for taking him off our hands

Hoopsworld Boston’s primary goal in the trade was to get under the luxury tax threshold, which likely means Greene is waived by the team before the season begins. Boston drafted Melo in 2012 with the 22nd overall pick but they dumped him to get out of the tax. No we're not getting the bag of Doritos for Fab. We have to throw them in to get rid of Fab. The Celtics also sent...

Your Morning Dump… Where a former Red’s Army writer is now a Celtics coach

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. Walter McCarty, who spent nearly eight seasons with the Boston Celtics during a 10-year playing career, confirmed to ESPN.com’s Jeff Goodman on Tuesday that he will be an assistant coach on Brad Stevens’ staff...

98.5 The Sports Hub could carry Celtics games, even though they never talk NBA

Most people tune in to listen to these idiots argue the same point from 2-5. They should probably just get Sirius. Other than the great Toucher and Rich show, there isn't a whole lot of NBA talk going on on Boston's number one sports radio station. The station's apparent lack of interest in the sport apparently won't stop them from carrying the Celtics games themselves...

Boston Celtics: What Projected Second Stringers MUST Work On…

Boston Celtics: What Projected Second Stringers MUST Work On… By Jordan Van Beek: HoopStuff Writer… G: Jordan Crawford – Shot Selection Jordan Crawford sure can dunk, but that’s not what basketball is all about. Crawford needs to fix a couple parts of his game. The two main ones are his porous shot selection and man-to-man defense. Crawford has only shot 40% from the field...

What the Hell Happened to...Eric Fernsten?

What the Hell Happened To, is usually all about perseverance.  Unheralded guys going the extra mile to make the mighty Boston Celtics.  This week's player, Eric Fernsten, epitomized that.  His entire career, he never quite felt safe enough about his job but it was always like that for him.  It was that way since he began playing basketball seriously the summer before his...

MarShon Brooks' Final Season With Nets Was 'Difficult'

MarShon Brooks knows minutes will not be guaranteed for him with the Boston Celtics, but he looks forward to competing for his position after a season in which he was mostly out of the Brooklyn Nets' rotation. "It was difficult last year, just not knowing when you’re going into the game, and things like that," said Brooks. "Play two games, not play the next...

Celtics Circuit: Walter McCarty Brought in as Assistant Coach

Former Boston Celtics forward Walter McCarty will be holding the clipboard on the Celtics sideline this year. When I initially read the Boston Celtics hired Walter McCarty as an assistant coach, my immediate thought was President of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge mysteriously left the organization and the Celtics replaced Ainge with television analyst Tommy Heinsohn. When McCarty...
