8 a.m. ET: Maybe Josh Smith can give his old high school teammate some pointers on getting through a rough stretch of losses. Smith and the Hawks are 5-8 in January, although they have won their last two by taking care of two sub-.500 clubs. As you might have noticed, that is exactly what the Celtics are at the moment. Rondo’s triple-double was not enough Thursday to prevent the Celtics (20-22) from losing their fifth straight game. One of the few factors working in Boston’s favor is that the Hawks (24-18) are dealing with a sea of injury issues, most notably Lou Williams’ season-ending right knee injury. Al Horford, Zaza Pachulia and Devin Harris are all uncertain in their statuses for this game. The Hawks still have Smith, though, even if the Oak Hill graduate’s numbers are down this season. They are also one of the most dangerous long-range shooting teams in the NBA, and contrary to their shoot-first, pass-seldom reputation, they are actually fourth in the league in assists. Join...

Josh Smith Calls It A ‘Devastation’ That Irving & Holiday Made All-Star Team Over Hawks Teammates

Josh Smith says he expected not to make the All-Star team after getting his hopes up last year. He is however, devastated, that none of his teammates made the team and 2 non-playoff bound players (Jrue Holiday and Kyrie Irving) did: Q. What do you think about the fact that there are no Hawks on the team? A. Now that is a devastation. To have two people … that probably aren’t...

Josh Smith Thinks He Deserves A Max Contract

Much has been made of Josh Smith being a free agent after this season and whether the Atlanta Hawks will trade him before the deadline. The Los Angeles Lakers have been a popular ending point for Smith, as the team clearly needs to infuse some athleticism into their roster. It’s unsure what kind of contract Smith will yield on the open market, as someone who can look like the best...

Rajon Rondo is crushing the rest of the league at triple doubles

Old triple double king vs new triple double king. Last night Rajon Rondo recorded his 4th triple double of the season.  He's now got twice as many as anyone else; LeBron James and Jose Calderon (Seriously? Jose Calderon?) have two a piece.  In last year's regular season Rondo had 6 triple doubles, while nobody else recorded more than one. Over the past two seasons combined...

Rajon Rondo Rocks Gold Nike Hyperposites vs Knicks

The struggling Celtics dropped their fifth straight (and first to the Knicks in Boston since ’06) on Thursday night, but Rajon Rondo was still able to shine in more ways than one.  As his teammates spent the majority of the game piling up bricks (or, in Paul Pierce’s case, dropping bricks on their toes), Rondo recorded his 27th career triple-double by scoring a team-high 23...

Comments from the Other Side - Hawks 1/25

Well, that wasn't fun.  It's becoming clear that the bench is finally coming around but now the starters are slumping.  The second unit gave us that big lead in the second quarter and then it went away when the starters came back in.  But there's progress.  We  at least got one great half of basketball.    One thing that always strikes me is all the complaints...
