It’s the time of year when many fans and analysts are making bold proclamations about their teams. Charles Barkley? Well, he’s here to announce that the Brooklyn Nets are the best team — in New York. Considering the only contender the Nets have in that horse race is the often-hapless Knicks, maybe it wasn’t such a big deal to anoint Brooklyn. But Barkley was emphatic that the Nets, who have greatly improved this season with the additions of Deron Williams, Joe Johnson and Gerald Wallace, are the new top team in town. “Let me tell you this, and I said the same thing last week: The best team in New York is the Brooklyn Nets,” Barkley said on The Mike Lupica Show on 98.7 ESPN New York. Barkley chided the Knicks’ defense and rebounding while complimenting the Nets’ overall depth. The two teams faced off for the first time in Brooklyn’s franchise history on Monday, with the Nets winning 96-89 in overtime. Barkley didn’t limit his feelings on the New York sports landscape to just basketba...

Charles Barkley: Lakers disrespected Phil Jackson, may be too old for Mike D’Antoni

The Los Angeles Lakers have taken heat from a number of people over the way they handled their coaching change situation earlier this month, and Charles Barkley is one of the latest. Barkley said he is a fan of Mike D’Antoni as a coach, but he disagrees with the way the Lakers treated Phil Jackson. “Well, I just thought they disrespected Phil Jackson,” Barkley told The Mike...

New York Jets must get Alex Smith

The flash in the NFL pan that’s been the Rex Ryan-era New York Jets was finally doused Thanksgiving night thanks to the New England Patriots. Losing to the dominant division foe from up north is one thing, but losing like the way the J-E-T-S Jets-Jets-Jets did is flat-out embarrassing. The fallout has been spectacular. Fan number one Fireman Ed has resigned, the boos have been...

Jets' Ryan speaks to LB Scott about fan comments

A day after Bart Scott called out heckling fans, New York Jets coach Rex Ryan told the linebacker to remember to ''appreciate'' them and that they ''deserve better'' than how the team has played. Charles Barkley Picks Tennis Player Andy Murray as Sportsman of the Year

Never winning a championship weighs on Charles Barkley, even in retirement. He might say it does not bother him, but he openly admits to rooting for athletes who have never won the big one. Or as he calls them, athletes on the “sh– list.” When Sports Illustrated asked Barkley for his choice for Sportsman of the Year, the ringless Hall of Famer went with a guy who finally got...

New York Jets – Rex Won’t Break Link To Sanchez’s Failures

Anyone who has witnessed the Jets play over their first eleven games can attest to the fact that Mark Sanchez lacks a quality supporting cast and knows that Rex Ryan has tried in vain to talk up, and coach up an undermanned team. If the Jets tank at any point during the final stretch of five winnable games though, Ryan must acknowledge that part of the problem this season has been...

Rex 'cherishes' first NFL experience with Cardinals

Regardless of what you may think of Rex Ryan as head coach of the New York Jets, the guy has a pretty impressive coaching resume. Ryan went from a graduate assistant at Eastern Kentucky in the late 1980s to one of the best defensive coaches in the game leading the mid-2000 Baltimore Ravens' defense. A few years later, he's the lead guy for New York's green team. But Ryan...

Shootaround: Welp, that was fun

San Antonio Spurs (13-3) vs. Miami Heat (10-3) 8 p.m./TNT Um, so this game got a lot less interesting. I mean, it might be fun to watch because Charles Barkley is calling the game, but Gregg Popovich's decision to send Tony Parker, Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili home to end this road trip for San Antonio takes a lot of the juice out of this game. This is not a 13-3 Spurs...

New York Jets – Where Is The Pass Rush?

Among the phrases I most frequently utter during a New York Jets game, “We really need a sack right here. When is the last time we got a sack?” is high up on the list. It isn’t just the 2012 version of the Jets who are awful at getting after the quarterback, it has been a recurring trend on the Jets over nearly the past decade. Did you know the last Jets player to register...
