New England Patriots
Editors note: The Oregonian mentioned that Chip Kelly may be holding out to move on to the NFL until he can have his dream job – that of head coach of the New England Patriots. NFL writer Luke Hughes and assistant editor Doug Kyed debate whether Kelly would make a good successor for Bill Belichick.
Black Monday came and went last week, and seven NFL teams were suddenly in the market for a new head coach. With guys like Andy Reid and Lovie Smith, who both led teams to Super Bowls, back on the market, there were some quality candidates available for teams to pursue. Yet, the hottest name of all sprouted up from the college ranks.
Chip Kelly, the Oregon head coach who brought the Ducks into national prominence over the past few years, was being heavily pursued by numerous NFL teams and appeared to be the front runner on many offseason wish lists. After some tantalizing flirtation with both the Cleveland Browns and Philadelphia Eagles, though, Kelly decided to head back to Eugene, Ore. ...
BEST OF MAXIM
A regular-season rout can be a poor predictor of the postseason rematch.
Coach Bill Belichick can remind his New England Patriots of that less than a month after their 42-14 romp that shoved the Houston Texans into their late-season plunge.
The stakes will be much higher when the Texans return Sunday to Gillette Stadium. The winner in the divisional-round game goes to the AFC championship...
Oregon is a better job than the Eagles.
It seems that it's only a matter of time before Chip Kelly is officially announced as the new head coach of the Cleveland Browns. And that should excite Browns fans. This marks the beginning of a new era in the history of the Cleveland Browns. In years past, the team would have most likely settled for the their third or fourth pick for head coach. Kelly obviously likes to be courted, but in the end, chose the jerseys and being the king of the Pac 12 over Vick and Foles.
Is it surprising to anybody that a team coached by Bill Belichick is approaching this game, where they are almost universally favored, as if they are the underdogs? This is why the New England Patriots have been a top-tier franchise for the past decade. They don't take any match-up lightly. When asked about being the heavy favorite against the Houston Texans, Patriots TE Rob...
Peter King adds that the Eagles seem to telling Chip Kelly that “we like you, but we’ll be fine without you.” King also mentions that Kelly could end up getting “cold feet” due to “not seeing an ideal job” and return to Oregon.
Jason Cole reports that Browns are leaving Arizona without an answer from Chip Kelly regarding their head coaching vacancy...
Bill Belichick doesn't believe that a blowout means anything in a rematch.
Where I hit you with some thoughts/opinions on the Bills reported coaching candidates.
Consider me in the camp of people who would love to have Chip coach our team. After the glut of stodgy older coaches (Gailey, Jauron), or coaches that buy into older philosophies (Mularkey), it sure would be nice to welcome a younger guy who is widely considered one of the biggest...
AMES, Iowa - As the college football season wound down, head coaches names began to float around to fill the seven vacancies on the NFL coaching carousel. Chip Kelly was leaving Oregon for the Cleveland Browns - no, Bill OBrien was leaving Penn State for the Cleveland Browns - no, maybe Nick Saban will leave the most lucrative coaching position in college football history for the...
The Buffalo Bills were one of the three teams that reportedly met with Oregon head coach Chip Kelly on Saturday.
