Tommy Richards’ bases-loaded single in the top of the 13th inning drove in a pair of runs, and reliever Scott Simon left the tying Mississippi State runner on third base to give Washington State a 6-5 victory at Dudy Noble Field. The extra inning affair meant game-two of the Sunday doubleheader was to begin around 6:30 to decide the season’s opening series for both squads.
