On Thursday, Dave Wannstedt met with the Buffalo Bills as they hope the former head coach will consider joining Chan Gailey’s staff. Gailey worked under Wannstedt as an offensive coordinator for two seasons when he was the head coach of the Miami Dolphins–so the two have already worked together in the past.
Miami was Wannstedt’s last head coaching gig in the NFL before resigning in the middle of the 2004 season. From there, he took the head coaching job at the University of Pittsburgh–where he went to school–and recently stepped down after finishing 7-5 this past season.
There’s a good chance Wannstedt returns to the NFL this season–it’s just a matter of where. While it seems unlikely Wannstedt joins Gailey in Buffalo since the only position open is inside linebackers, ESPN’s Tim Graham has an idea that may work for this situation.
