Ever see a fan fight at a wheelchair basketball game in Turkey? Now you have. Did you know they televise wheelchair basketball in Turkey? Same here. Anyway, welcome to the bitter rivalry between the Galatasary and Besiktas wheelchair teams. From all indications, this is like the Michigan-Ohio State of wheelchair basketball in Turkey. The teams don’t like each other. The fans don’t like each other. Violence just kinda happens. This happened over the weekend. Via: The match at the Ahmet Comert Sports Hall in Istanbul had already been delayed for half an hour before the start following a court invasion. But the main bout of violence happened six minutes from the end of the second quarter when Galatasaray were leading 31-26. Players and staff tried to calm their fans down but their pleas went unheard as both sets of supporters continued to throw missiles at each other and then took the row to the sidelines where wheelchairs were wrecked and other equipment destroyed. According to wheelchair basketball experts, Galatasaray is considered the best team in Europe. They’re six-time Turkish Wheelchair Basketball Super League champions; that would be six consecutive titles. In other words, other teams hate Galatasaray. It’s like Alabama football. Yankees baseball. Fights happen. At least 10 have been arrested for this brawl. “Sports are now officially dead in this country,” Galatasaray coach Sedat Incesu told NTV news. Filed under: Cuff 'Em
