The NBA Draft is quickly approaching with the clock ticking down ever closer to the big gathering in Brooklyn for the Cavaliers and the number one pick. That decision for the Cavaliers got a whole heck of a lot tougher Thursday when Joel Embiid’s agent, Arn Tellem, announced Embiid has a stress fracture in his foot. The injury has sent the NBA Draft preparations into a tailspin as Embiid has gone from consensus top-3 pick to maybe not even in the top-10. Some believe this injury is very serious as he fractured a bone at the top of his foot that has dogged several former players as well — most notably Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Brook Lopez have suffered stress fractures in the same part. Back and foot injuries for 7-footers (raw 7-footers at that) are never a good thing. That is going to cause Joel Embiid to fall and shake up everyone’s mock drafts and projections of the draft — that goes from media and observers like me to coaches and general managers figuring out how things will play o...

Opinion: You’re missing out if you don’t draft JoJo

I really doubt any NBA team will listen to word I have to say in this… But if I know they would, I’d tell them they’re missing out on not drafting Joel Embiid. JoJo is special and outside of Andrew Wiggins and maybe Jabari Parker, no one in this draft has a chance to be half as special as Embiid in this year’s draft. If JoJo slips out of the top four picks of the draft, I’ll...

Ex-Jayhawk Joel Embiid has surgery on right foot

Top prospect Joel Embiid had two screws placed in his right foot during surgery Friday to repair a stress fracture that could cause him to fall in next week's NBA Draft. Dr. Richard Ferkel says in a statement that the surgery on the navicular bone went well and he is confident Embiid will be able to return to the court after "appropriate healing." Ferkel did not put...

Embiid's agent, Arn Tellem, said in a statement that the former Kansas star underwent the procedure at Southern California Orthopedic Institute...

Joel Embiid Backs Cristiano Ronaldo After U.S. Draw; Twitter Does Not Approve

Joel Embiid lost a few fans Sunday night, and it had nothing to do with his fractured foot. Like most in America, the NBA draft prospect spent his afternoon watching the U.S. and Portugal battle in group play at the 2014 FIFA World Cup. But after Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo set up the game-tying goal with a beautiful cross in stoppage time, Embiid did not share the nation...

Joel Embiid suffers backlash after cheering for Ronaldo

Long before Joel Embiid picked up a basketball, he dreamed of becoming a soccer player. Joel Embiid considers himself a Real Madrid fan. Which is why it wasn’t shocking to me to see him tweet in support of Cristiano Ronaldo on Sunday night after assisting the game-tying goal in a crucial World Cup game. Ronaldo, of course, is Real Madrid’s star player (and in some people’s...

NBA GM: ‘You Can’t Use A Top-Five Pick’ On Joel Embiid Now

Photo Credit: AP All NBA mock drafts were thrown for a loop when Kansas center Joel Embiid, who many think could be the first pick in the draft, suffered a foot injury that will require immediate surgery. Naturally, many think teams will now be hesitant to select the big man, with thoughts of Greg Oden sure to be in the back of their mind. One anonymous NBA GM agrees with being hesitant...

How far does Joel Embiid fall? #7 to L.A. Lakers?

Kansas big man Joel Embiid was a total unknown entering this college basketball season. Even though he has major back issues, and often played like a freshman for the Jayhawks this past season, he still ascended to the value of a top three overall draft pick. Some even rated his NBA Draft stock as top pick worthy. Now Joel Embiid is out 4-6 months with a foot fracture. By the time...

Kings should steer clear of post-surgery Embiid

If you want to see NBA executives scrambling for their Sharpies and hastily revising their internal mock drafts? More sleep-deprived than usual? With the annual selection party less than a week away? Mention Joel Embiid. The Kansas center, who was projected as the No.1 overall pick before undergoing surgery Friday to repair a fractured right foot, is turning the lottery process...

Sporting News tabbed Cliff Alexander as the No. 3 center in the upcoming 2014-15 season.
