Zambrano pitched good enough to win, but Kevin Gregg had other ideas. Hoffpauir looked completely clueless in his first three AB’s the hit a long, long HR to put the Cubs ahead in the top of the 8th. He, Soto, and Fukudome looked awful tonight (excepting the HR, of course), and Soto left the game in the 8th after taking a very awkward swing in his final AB. Derrek Lee continued his streak, getting two hits, and running his hit streak to 21 games. Even so, the Cubs had Edwin Jackson on the ropes in the first inning and fell flat on their faces, as they are wont to do any time a runner is in scoring position. In the top of the fourth and the top of the sixth, they again had RiSP, and came away with one run total. The stranded 6, and K’d 9 times against 4 walks. This is just a very mediocre to poor offensive team right now. Until this team figures out how to capitalize on bases-loaded no outs, or man on 3B, 1 or no outs, they are going to give way games like this. The Cubs had a chance to put this game to bed in the first inning, and they didn’t. This needs to be unfucked without interpose delay. The HR King takes on Rick Porcello tomorrow. If Porcello shuts down the Cubs tomorrow, that sound you hear will be JG screaming “I told you SO.”
