The Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired struggling closer Carlos Marmol, who was designated for assignment just recently by the club. Marmol has seen his closer role be stripped more than once during his time with the Chicago Cubs. Also in the trade was another reliever in Matt Guerrier who is now Chicago-bound. The Dodgers also landed international signing-bonus pick number-four.
Marmol currently sports an ERA+ of 68 and a BB/9 ratio of 6.8 – both of which are alarming for a guy that is expected to be a closer. Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti says that Marmol’s issues are mostly mechanic-wise.
“He’s still got a lot of youth to him,” said Colletti. “He’s not on the downside of his career. He needs, perhaps, a change of scenery and an adjustment with his delivery.”
