PHOENIX -- Alfonso Soriano appears to be on his way back to the New York Yankees. Soriano was scratched from the Chicago Cubs' lineup in mid-afternoon Thursday, and manager Dale Sveum said a trade was "99 percent done." "Theo (Epstein, the Cubs' general manager) called and said it is pretty close to a deal being done, so better off not playing him," Sveum said. The Yankees? "That's the only team that I know we are talking to," Sveum said Soriano broke in with the Yankees in 1999 and played with them through 2003 before playing with the Rangers for two years, the Nationals for one and the Cubs for the past 6 12 after signing an eight-year, 136 million contract in 2007. He is to earn 18 million this year and another 18 million in 2014, the final year of his deal. Soriano is hitting .254 with 17 homers and 51 RBIs in 93 games this season. He said earlier in the week that he would not be averse to being used as a DH as well as playing le...

Chicago Cubs trade rumors: Alfonso Soriano edition

With “Garza Watch” coming to an end Monday, most of the trade rumors surrounding the Chicago Cubs will now be focused on Alfonso Soriano. Soriano has no trade rights, so he will have the opportunity to veto any trade, much like he did in 2012 when the Cubs tried to deal him to the San Francisco Giants. It seems however that 2013 may finally be the year Soriano is traded, given...

Annoying fan videobombs friend's camera time during Soriano introduction

A Yankees fan with a homemade sign welcoming back Alfonso Soriano —after a 10-year leave — had his big moment on the Jumbotron video-bombed by his annoying pal. There was a nice welcome during the left fielder's intro before his first at-bat wearing pinstripes after his trade back to Yankee Stadium.  Picked out of the crowd by the TV booth was the guy holding the simple...

Cubs Rumors from Around the Globe

- Alfonso Soriano had a "scheduled" off day on Wednesday versus the Diamondbacks despite some gaudy career numbers against Ian Kennedy (6-for-13, 3 HR's, 7 RBI's, 3 BB's). The Twitter-verse was having none of it and the conspiracies flowed that the Cubs were just awaiting his approval on a deal. Soriano showed up though for a pre-game chat with the reporters...

Yankees Trade Rumor: Alfonso Soriano

Alfonso Soriano. A name very recognizable to Yankees fans as Soriano was the key piece in the trade that brought Ales Rodriguez to the Bronx from Arlington, TX back in 2003. And according to a tweet courtesy of ESPN’s Buster Onley, there is one thing keeping Soriano from being back in pinstripes once again. As of this evening, there's a large gap between how CHC and NYY value...

Yanks Trade New Year's Baby for Old Year Geezer

Corey Black, 21, gets us Alfonso Soriano, 37. Thank God El Duque and Alphonso are away, or we'd be in for 20,000 words. Here's Soriano homering for the Yankees in a World Series played all the way back when TV screens were narrow:

Yankees and Braves Should Consider Reopening Trade Talks

The New York Yankees have already made a big splash at the trade deadline by acquiring the hottest bat in Alfonso Soriano. While New York is not in a desperate...
