I have to be honest, I'm a little surprised waking up this morning and not seeing another trade go down. The Padres did make a signing (not a big deal) but that's about it so far. I think a lot of people yesterday were more preoccupied with football, which is understandable. Currently I am in San Francisco on vacation and they are only worried about the game tonight. Anyways enough about that here are some Padres links: Submit articles and follow me on twitter @M_Rennick   Peter Gammons breaks down the Mat Latos trade - Padres.com "This weekend's 4-for-1 trade with Cincinnati may be the final major part of the "build a wave" developmental philosophy that Hoyer and McLeod tried to institute."   According to MLBTR the Padres had interest in Matt Garza"The Padres have some interest in acquiring Matt Garza from the Cubs in a package that would include Anthony Rizzo, tweets Jim Bowden of ESPN.com and MLB Network Radio." Mat Latos to the Reds is a ridiculously stupid deal.

After establishing himself as a solid pitcher in San Diego, Mat Latos is now being shipped off to the Midwest in a trade that the Cincinnati Reds will regret regardless if Latos pans out. I watched 1B/LF Yonder Alonso and C Yasmani Grandal play together in college, and they are both weapons with serious MLB potential. Not to mention that now solid prospect Brad Boxberger and star...

Another Ex Red to Padres

San Diego recently added one more player to their roster who spent most of the 2011 season in the Reds organization, and that player is OF Jeremy Hermida. The Padres and Hermida agreed to terms on a minor league deal over the weekend tweets Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com. The 27-year old was claimed off waivers by the Friars in August before being designating for assignment earlier...

Mat Latos Became a Red and The Tri-Tip Was Cold

The other day I finally ponied-up for a Baseball Prospectus subscription. I'd been meaning to do it for sometime and now that it's the only place to read Ducksnorts it has become even more imperative. It was Kevin Goldstein's publication of his top eleven Padres Prospects however, that forced my hand. Goldstein's overall evaluation was that the Padres have accrued...

With Triple-A Tucson this season, Martinez batted .313 with...

What Exactly Are the Padres Doing?

After yesterday's trade of Mat Latos to the Reds, the general consensus among fans what that the Padres got a hell of a haul of prospects from Cincinnati. The highlights of the deal are Yonder Alonso and Yasmani Grandal, a pair of Cubans who look ready for the majors after brief spells in the minor leagues. But here's the problem with both of them: there doesn't appear...

Padres Interested In Matt Garza

The Padres have some interest in acquiring Matt Garza from the Cubs in a package that would include Anthony Rizzo, tweets Jim Bowden of ESPN.com and MLB Network Radio. Based on reports yesterday, it seems both clubs may be interested in working out a trade involving Rizzo. With Mat Latos now a Cincinnati Red, the Padres' interest in Garza makes some sense, particularly since...

Poll: Which Team Won The Mat Latos Trade?

On Friday, it was reported that Gio Gonzalez, Mat Latos and Jair Jurrjens were among the pitchers on the Reds’ wish list.  Less than 24 hours later, the Reds turned their wish list into reality when they sent Yonder Alonso, Edinson Volquez, Yasmani Grandal, and Brad Boxberger to San Diego for Latos.  The Padres have been willing to listen on deals for Latos this winter...

Depth accelerating Friars' return to contention

This weekend's 4-for-1 Padres trade with Cincinnati may be the final major part of the "build a wave" developmental philosophy that former San Diego executives Jed Hoyer and Jason McLeod tried to institute.
