INDIANAPOLIS — Andy Dalton, A.J. Green and Jerome Simpson got their time on the red carpet during the inaugural NFL Honors award show, but they didn’t take home any hardware. Dalton and Green were up for The Associated Press Offensive Rookie of the Year but it was won by Carolina’s Cam Newton. In showing that they were trying to give a Hollywood flare to the show, singer Katy Perry presented the award. Dalton became the first rookie quarterback to throw for 20 touchdowns and lead his team to win eight games or more but Newton set a rookie record for most passing yards. According to STATS Inc., Dalton and Green were also the most prolific rookie duo in terms of receptions (62) and yards (1,002) for at least the past 30 years. “I’m a student of the game and I was watching what Andy Dalton and all the rookies did,” Newton said. “It was amazing not only the success I had but what he also did.” Newton received 47 of the 50 votes from a...
