Daniels trade hits a snag

The Acquisition of Marquis Daniels from the Pacers appears to have hit a snag: (http://www.bostonherald.com/blogs/sports/celtics/index.php/2009/07/27/celts-indy-seek-third-team-in-daniels-deal/)The Celtics’ attempt to sign free agent Marquis Daniels - a deal they have attempted to facilitate with a sign-and-trade arrangement with Indiana - has hit a snag.The Pacers are reportedly dissatisfied with what the Celtics are offering - with the primary bait said to be guard Tony Allen and possibly Gabe Pruitt.As a result, according to a source close to negotiations, the Celtics and Indiana are now searching for a third team to make the trade work.The Pacers, beset by past citizenship issues, are reportedly relctant to bring in Allen. The guard’s off-court issues, including death threats in Chicago that required extra bench security during last spring’s playoffs, cut agaiinst the grain of Pacers president Larry Bird’s attempt to move away from the legacy of players like Ron Artest and Jamaal Tinsley.“They need a third team, and that’s complicated,” said the source. “No other teams have jumped at it so far.”Daniels has agreed to join the Celtics, though the 6-6 swingman would make more in a sign-and-trade deal than for the $1.9 million biannual exception the Celtics can offer in a straight free agent signing.Though the Celtics have attempted to include restricted free agent Glen Davis in several sign-and-trade deals with other teams, sources with the Celtics and New Jersey both shot down a rumor this morning that both teams were attempting to make such an arrangemen work.Personally, I'd hate to see Pruitt go anywhere. The kid can shoot and can defend. And, quite honestly, the Celtics don't really know what they have with him. I guess that can work both ways, but I'd like to see Pruitt stay. But, you have to give something to get something I suppose.
