Art Rooney II introduced the newest Pittsburgh Steeler this afternoon at a brief press conference. From watching DeCastro talk with the media you can tell that he is a man of few words, very down to earth, humble, and doesn’t care much for all the media attention. Basically he fits right in with the offensive lineman mentality in the NFL.
Here are a few highlights of the presser and you can view the entire chat with David via the link below.
On being drafted by the Steelers: Definitely a life changing moment. very excited, steelers organization speaks for itself. I couldn’t be happier.
On any disappointment in falling down in the first round: The Steelers helped overcome any disappointment when they picked me I was more than overjoyed. There really wasn’t much to begin with though.
On the last 24 hours: Still trying to catch my breath over the last 24 hours. Tons of text messages, phone calls, it’s an exciting time. I’m just trying to enjoy the moment.
Definitely Excited to play so...
BEST OF MAXIM
FOXBORO, Mass. -- Stanford guard David DeCastro's surprising fall might have been the biggest reason why the Patriots' opening night of the draft was such a complete success. The Patriots started Thursday by trading up to the 21st pick to select Syracuse defensive end Chandler Jones, which was a strong move for a team that needed a boost on the edge. Because of that move...
ThebPittsburg Steelers, a team in need of protecting quarterback Ben Rothleisberger, selected Stanford guard David DeCastro. This is an excellent choice as DeCastro was widely considered a premier blocker.
The Steelers have just made their first round pick. It was a huge steal. The Steelers picked up OG David DeCastro from Stanford. I had DeCastro ranked in my top 10 over all. This was such a steal. Guards always fall but this was ridiculous. Great pick by the Steelers.
I was all for Dont’a Hightower but there is no way to pass this kid up. I love this pick. What...
DeCastro is an elite prospect despite being a guard.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have always been a difficult team to project on draft day and trying to predict who they will take in a mock draft is near impossible, as they build their board, then abide by it, regardless out outside opinions.
The Steelers are an organization built on doing things the right way and when it comes...
Now that the shock of David DeCastro being selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers has worn off, the question I see most asked is if the Stanford product can play left guard. Of course Mike Tomlin was asked that very question during the press conference following the pick and said, "He is a right guard. That’s what he has played at Stanford. We are going to work to put our best...
Kevin Colbert said in the Steelers pre draft press conference that there were 7-10 surefire picks in this draft. At pick 24 the Steelers got one of those guys. Colbert said he was one of those few special players that the Steelers thought could be great. He was a possible candidate for a trade up by the team.
When asked about the pick being a no brainer Colbert gave an emphatic...
The Pittsburgh Steelers hit the mother load in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft when David DeCastro fell to them at the 24th spot. Nobody thought he’d fall this far, in fact many experts felt he was a top 10-15 pick. No question about it he is the best OG in this draft, exactly what the Steelers needed to help protect Ben Roethlisberger. He joins Maurkice Pouncey and Marcus...
Obviously i was overjoyed when the Steelers were able to pluck the best guard in the draft when they nabbed Stanford’s David DeCastro with the 24th overall pick. Watching this guy on film was sheer fun, and i could picture in my mind’s eye Steelers Boss Hogg, Sean Kugler, doing the burrito dance after David [...]
After stealing David DeCastro yesterday the Steelers now are poised to make another good move. Many of the big names fell and after the first round they are still on the board. Here are my top 25 guys left on the board.
Amini Silatolu- G Midwestern State
Stephen Hill- WR Georgia Tech
Jerel Worthy- DT Michigan State
Coby Fleener- TE Stanford
Courtney Upshaw- OLB Alabama...
The first round of the 2012 NFL draft is in the books and rounds two and three take center stage tonight in New York. The drafting of Stanford guard David DeCastro with the 24th pick in round one was a great way to have my mock draft busted, so I can now turn my attention to a few players the Steelers could have their sights set on tonight.
With only four offensive lineman currently...
Steeler Nation received a surprise Thursday night in round one of the 2012 NFL draft when Stanford guard David DeCastro fell right into the lap of the Pittsburgh Steelers at 24. If that surprise was not enough, the Steelers surprised us again in round two with the selection of troubled Ohio State tackle Mike Adams with the 24th pick of round two.
The 6 foot, 7 inch left tackle...
The first round of the NFL Draft is happening later this evening, and the Cowboys are sitting on the 14th overall pick. Several names have come up as potential picks for Dallas, so let’s run through a few here: Option 1: David DeCastro, OG, Stanford. DeCastro is being touted as the best guard to come [...]
