After a four-game losing streak the Orioles look as if they’re coming back to life. With crucial series against Tampa Bay and Oakland this week the Orioles have to win consistently. On Sunday they took their second straight over the Colorado Rockies and ended interleague play with a 7-2 win before 22238 at Oriole Park. The Orioles (67-56) trail both Tampa Bay and Oakland in the Wild Card race and with 39 games left they may have to win two of every three to make the postseason for the second straight season. Scott Feldman pitched into the seventh inning allowing two runs on five hits. Feldman (3-3) allowed just two hits in the first six innings. In the second inning Nick Markakis singled with one out off Jhoulys Chacin (11-7). Brian Roberts followed with a single. After Ryan Flaherty hit into a fielder’s choice and Markakis took third Alexi Casilla’s single scored Markakis. Chris Davis doubled with two outs in the third. Adam Jones hit a two-run home run into the Orioles bullpe...

Baltimore Orioles recover from sweep, take two from Rockies

The offense could not have woken up at a better time, and “Crush” had plenty to do with it (Photo: Patrick Semansky, AP) After perhaps their most disappointing and heartbreaking series of the season, the Baltimore Orioles were able to bounce back and win two out of three from the Colorado Rockies at Camden Yards. In their previous series, against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase...

Orioles rumors: Baltimore wants 'to find another hitter'

The Baltimore Orioles are getting ready to welcome back Wilson Betemit, who has served as an option for the team at designated hitter, first base and in the outfield. While Betemit is expected to be activated from the disabled list in the next two weeks, his return won't stop the Orioles from continuing their search for another hitter, according to Dan Connolly of The Baltimore...

Down on the Baltimore Orioles farm: Adam Russell

Adam Russell hasn’t pitched in the major leagues since 2011, could he be called up when the MLB rosters expand to 40 men on Sept. 1? (Photo Credit: Kim Klement/USA TODAY Sports) Each day moves us closer to September and on Sept. 1, the Major League Baseball rosters expand to 40 men. One group of individuals that might be counting down the days until Sept. 1 is the Baltimore Orioles...

Orioles' J.J. Hardy sidelined by back spasms

The Baltimore Orioles held J.J. Hardy out of the lineup for the second consecutive day Sunday, as the shortstop continues to deal with back spasms. Manager Buck Showalter told reporters -- including Brittany Ghiroli of MLB.com -- that the move was mostly precautionary, as he expects Hardy to be back in today's lineup. "Could probably push the envelope if I wanted to...

Francisco Rodriguez suffers groin injury

The Baltimore Orioles suffered another loss on Friday night when reliever Francisco Rodriguez left the Orioles game against the Colorado Rockies in the eighth inning with a right groin strain. As reported by Brittany Ghiroli of MLB.com, Rodriguez appeared to injure his right groin while warming up, but entered the game in the seventh inning and retired the final two batters...

Orioles 7, Rockies 2

Chris Davis went 4 for 5 with his major league-leading 45th home run, Adam Jones had two-run shot among his three hits and the Baltimore Orioles beat the Colorado Rockies 7-2 on Sunday. Scott Feldman pitched into the seventh inning to earn his first win in nearly a month. Davis scored three times and got hits in his final four at-bats. After the All-Star slugger's two-out double...

Column: Can we still cheer for Chris Davis?

(Eds: With AP Photos.) By TIM DAHLBERG AP Sports Columnist The mark is 61, no matter what the record books say. Roger Maris is the single-season home run champion, regardless of how many home runs Mark McGwire, Barry Bonds and Sammy Sosa managed to hit. He will be until someone deposits No. 62 over a fence and then does something even more difficult by convincing us that it was...

This week was pivotal for the Orioles...

Are we at the DEFCON 5 stage of the season for the Baltimore Orioles? No. However, based on what I have seen and read online, listened to on the radio and TV – maybe. They went 4-4 on a crucial road trip to San Diego, San Francisco and Phoenix. While the trip started off well for the Orioles, it quickly unraveled as closer Jim Johnson blew three straight saves against...

Orioles use 7-run 3rd to beat Rockies 8-4

The Baltimore Orioles had gone nearly a week without a victory, a stretch that included three one-run defeats in Arizona and a lopsided loss to Colorado at home. So, when they finally got to add another digit to their win total, the Orioles didn't really care if the outcome was influenced by their opponent's mistakes. Brian Roberts and Manny Machado both hit two-run doubles...

Orioles bust out of slump with 8-4 win over the Rockies

Orioles manager Buck Showalter spent several minutes during his pre-game news conference Saturday afternoon talking about how his offense was seemingly close to breaking out and may sometime soon finally take advantage of the scoring opportunities it kept squandering. That time came in the third inning of Saturday’s 8-4 bashing of the Colorado Rockies before an announced crowd...

Orioles Lukewarm on Morneau

The Baltimore Orioles are looking to beef up their lineup by adding a DH, and are planning on making multiple waiver claims, according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.  But their interest in Minnesota Twins first baseman Justin Morneau has cooled according to a recent Rosenthal tweet. In a late July article the Baltimore Sun reported that the Orioles and Twins were having discussions...

Frustration with Last Night...

As James noted this week, the Orioles are at a critical, must-win juncture in the 2013 season. We all know that the Orioles still have time to get into the playoffs, or perhaps win the division; however, after their 4-3 loss last night at the hands of the Tampa Bay Rays to begin their three-game series on Monday, it could be time to worry. Since July, the Orioles have been a...

On your marks...

Despite what some of the more alarmist factions of Orioles fandom may have been saying, there has not been a “must win” game or series yet this year. There have been games and series that would have greatly benefited the team if they had won (many of which they have) but nothing has risen to the level of “must win,” yet. Until now. The next 15 games are going greatly...

A Look at the American League MVP Race

The American League MVP race last season became the argument of the summer. Who is more valuable: Miguel Cabrera or Mike Trout? The voters went with Cabrera, but to this day, the argument is still up in the air. So, will the race be between Cabrera and Trout again this season or will there be more participants? Let's take a look at the candidates and figure out what kind of...
