According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the Clippers management, who have been involved in the trade talks with the Celtics, planned to meet with team's owner Donald Sterling on Wednesday night to get approval from him for the trades that would send Doc Rivers and Kevin Garnett to LA for DeAndre Jordan and picks. Of course, they had to wait until Sterling got home from dinner with another coaching candidate, Brian Shaw. Back at the February trade deadline, the Celtics and Clippers were reportedly in trade talks for Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett and at that time, the coach and management were for the trade, but the owner was against it and the trade never went further than talks. However, this time, according to those ever present sources, Chris Paul is moving these talks and so if the Clippers want to re-sign him, they need to keep him happy. And, playing for Doc Rivers would reportedly make him happy. Just spent better part of the evening w/Cris Paul and his wife Jada. I can only tell you that he is a Big fan of Doc Rivers. — Ralph Lawler (@Ohmeomy) June 20, 2013 Apparently, the feeling is mutual. Paul pushed the Clippers back into talks, saying that hiring Doc as coach was he hiring of Rivers and acquisition of Garnett would be essential to his re-signing with the club. "Doc is taking the job to coach Chris Paul," a league source told Yahoo! Sports on Wednesday. "This isn't happening if Chris planned to leave." I'm hoping that the fact that the only coach Rajon Rondo has known is almost giddy about coaching one of Rondo's biggest rival point guards will be motivation for Rondo to have the best season of his career. Rondo is proud and I can almost guarantee that he's going to want to prove to Doc that he chose the wrong point guard to coach. Wojo is reporting that the Clippers have offered to Doc a 5 year, $35 million deal that could be worth as much as $8 million a year with bonus incentives. Doc also plans to bring some of his assistants with him, including assistant coaches Tyronn Lue and Kevin Eastman, and possibly others as well. Only one assistant coach, Jay Larranaga, who was hired last season, has a contract for next season with the Celtics. I do know that the Clipper way is not the Celtic way.   Donald Sterling has been known as a cheap owner, which is why the Clippers have been a doormat for the league over the years.  He does seem to be loosening the purse strings lately, but he's still cheap.    There have also been reports of his racism and inappropriate business deals.around for years.  I have a feeling that Doc and KG will eventually be missing the Celtics way of life and the great owners that they have had for the past 6 years.    Once the Clippers' management get approval from Donald Sterling, they need to submit both deals to the league for approval. Remember last season when David Stern stopped the Chris Paul trade to the Lakers for "Basketball reasons"? Let's hope he doesn't have any of those basketball reasons left over to stop this one. I'm ready for it to be done. I don't want to lose KG or Paul Pierce. It's going to be hard to see them play for another team. But,I've come to the conclusion that Doc is gone and both players want to go with him. If it's getting done, I want it done NOW so the Celtics can get on with the rebuilding. [Discuss on CG Forums!]
