After grabbing the game winning touchdown in overtime yesterday, DeAndre Hopkins says he wants to be better than Andre Johnon (Credit: FullScaleSports) Yesterday was rookie DeAndre Hopkins’ coming out party in the NFL. The 27th overall pick in this year’s draft broke out to the tune of 117 yards and 1 touchdown on 7 receptions. Hopkins stepped up after number one wide receiver Andre Johnson was sidelined with concussion like symptoms. Hopkins touchdown came in overtime as the Texans rallied to come from behind, again, to defeat the Titans 30-24. Hopkins played well enough that even his coach, Gary Kubiak, was offering him praise following the game. “We survived today because of some great heroics and plays by him,” Kubiak said of Hopkins. With Johnson on the sideline, Hopkins was able to step up and show the team the play maker he can be if given the chance. In fact, Hopkins hopes that one day he will be the team’s number one wide receiver and better than Andre Johnson. Following yesterday’s game, Hopkins told the team’s website that he believes he can be better than Andre Johnson. “I feel like I can be better than Andre,” Hopkins said, via the team’s website. “That’s my mindset. And that’s what Andre tells me. [He says] Don’t try to shadow yourself when you know you can be better.” It is great to see Andre Johnson is trying to help Hopkins become a great wide receiver. If Hopkins can turn into a legitimate number one wide receiver, the team will have a plethora of options on offense with Hopkins, Johnson, Daniels, Foster and Tate. Hopkins may be the final piece for the Texans to make the Super Bowl and in the end, at least if it was up to him, Andre Johnson will be playing second fiddle to him.
